Well, things aint awful where I live...but living expense is going to essentially keep us where we are rather than progressing. The lady of the house and I have been discussing moving south. Tired of the harsh winters, super expensive houses, lack of economic growth/jobs available here.

Looking at eastern Tennessee. Figured I'd see what people thought, how their local economies are etc.

You might be alright with work in east Tennessee if you are closer to one of the bigger cities, depending on what you're line of work is,as stated Middle Tennessee is growing pretty fast with all kinds of work in about every thing. @Mastermind I'd farther into east Tennessee than anyone I can think of at the moment.

Well...I've been a faller, residential tree removal idiot, I've cooked professionally, I've worked in construction, I've fabricated countertops, and I held several ASE certifications at one point after going to technical school for auto and diesel. I can do about anything and I am a quick study.

I set myself up to be able to go anywhere and work.

My dad said the same thing when I got a different job. "Whats going to happen? You learn another skill and be more marketable? Good for you"

I just wanted to be diverse enough to always earn.

I'd be looking at something near...but not too near Nashville, Chattanooga, or Knoxville.
We was spying houses in the Chattanooga area! The plan is to do some extra side work this winter, save up a few grand and make a little rv trip out that way.

Yeah, it can get pretty severe here. The temperature extremes are wild. -40 with the wind chill on occasion, 90s to 100 in the summer.

Eastern TN is a beautiful place for sure. I've been down to the Robbinsville area twice. The Smoky Mountains are epic. If you do 2 wheels, it just doesn't get any betterer.
Yeah I do likes bikes. A passion of mine, should we end up down there I reckon it would be my primary means of transport 3 seasons.

C’mon down Dom! I’m in central AL, but visit east TN frequently and love living in the south. I was born and raised here, but moved as an adult to Baltimore and then Chicago. Those moves allowed me to appreciate living here now much more and I wouldn’t voluntarily leave the south again. I second (or third) the recommendation for Chattanooga..my family and I really like that area and it’s a fantastic town that’s growing quickly.

Ive lived in east TN all my life. I grew up in east Knoxville and always had plenty of work to do before becoming a game warden. Now I live north of Knoxville and it is growing like crazy. Like @Mastermind said, I would look close to the big cities, but not in them. I would avoid Memphis and Nashville like the plague. Knoxville, Sevierville, Chattanooga, Cookeville, etc. Sevierville/Pigeon Forge is a big tourist town and rental companies are always looking for maintenance techs!
