I don't know where you are located but there are several tractor only auctions all over the USA. This is one, do a search for your area. Usually some good deals can be had if you know what you are looking for.

I looked at this on my way home yesterday.

JD 855, 3cyl 25hp Yanmar engine, hydrostatic drive, mid and rear PTO. Comes with FEL, a sheet metal canopy and soft cab enclosure, cab heater, all new orange hazzard lights (not installed), and a small PTO driven cement mixer. Hour meter reads 150 hours. The story is, the original owner was a college who had an engine failure. The motor was completely overhauled by the dealer and they put a new hour meter in it at the time. Shortly after, the tractor went to auction and bought by someone at the college who used it very little then sold it to the guy down the road from me. He used it very little also and had it out for sale last fall. I thought it sold but he got sick of the tire kickers and decided to keep it. I stopped to inquire about it and looked it over, it's in very nice shape. He's asking $8500 and said he isn't really negotiable. :( He put new tires on it last year.

That's a nice looking tractor. I forgot about the 855 my neighbor has one surprising what he can do with it.

That one is weird in the fact that the tires are "AG" tires but they are like the lawn tractor version of AG tires. They don't really have a deep aggressive V-bar tread like farm tractor tires have even though they are brand new...

I also called about another 31 HP Deutz-Allis 5230 like the other green one on the previous page. It has 1580 hrs, FEL, and 5 ' brush hog, canopy and soft cab. He's 160 miles from me unfortunately but he said he would take $7K. It recently had a new clutch and front wheel bearings. The distance about kills it but The other tractors are $100 miles away so its not too much farther... hmmm.

I did a little digging around on the internet, just searched "Deutz-Allis hard to find parts" and the first thing that came up was a parts place out in mid west. I called them and they told me to call Southern Global Tractor in Wiggins MS. I called and had them check availability of nearly every part in the front drive for the 5020 and they had it available and in stock. She told me they can get a whole engine rebuild kit with pistons, rods and seals for $1000. Im happy knowing I can rebuild the engine and front axle if needed. The right front wheel joint area on the 5020 had a lot of bearing grease coming out of the kingpin joint so it needs a seal at least. The seal is about $130 and the bearing is over $200... I'm going to see if I can negotiate him down some more on the price. The time it takes to work on things doesn't bother me too much but having to spend possibly $300 on a bearing and seal for a tractor that I just bought for $6K does.

If anyone needs an IPL for tractor parts go to AGCOpartsbook.com

it was stated earlier but i will say it again. look at 50-70hp tractors....buddy of mine bought a JD (cant remember the model) 70hp for 5k that has worked flawless tilling/planting/harvesting 400 acres of corn for the last 3 years. only money he has spent on it is the set of tires he just had me order yesterday. he just bought a international 766 for $3000....so far pulling chisel plow this spring he hasnt had to do anything except add fuel.

auctions are your best friend, dont get in a hurry and something in your price range will pop up at one. last summer i watched a massey with FEL and only 200 hrs or so sell for 8k.....it was only a couple year old tractor that still looked like it could be sitting on a dealer lot. also had an oliver 1750 gas that sold for $1600. my techs brother bought it and makes hay with it....only work it needed was a paint job and new battery, i almost bought it but 80hp gas tractor was not that appealing to me but i have been pestering him to sell it to me for the last few months

I wish i would have went that route 10 years ago instead of buying a new TC40....the little new holland has been flawless and with a little finesse it does everything i need but most times i find that a bigger tractor would have done it faster, easier, safer.

those 20-50hp tractors are the most desirable but also the most expensive so going up above that 50hp threshold will get you allot more tractor for less money.

Here she is boys. Brought this home yesterday. Deutz-Allis 5230 with 1580 hrs on it. Came with the Kingkutter brush hog, new blades for it, soft cab, new filters all the way around, and a dipstick rag. he also had all the service and operating and safety manuals plus the original sales brochures for the while series of tractors. Kind of neat.

It needs 2 new hoses on the bucket curl rams, they are weeping oil and a muffler. Ready to work.

Congratulations! It won't be long and you'll wonder how you ever did anything before!! It's it air cooled? That's a great age of equipment before lawyers stupid lawsuits.

:beer-toast1: Here's to many years of service!!

Congrats, when you look for parts keep in mind that a M Ferguson 1030 or 1040 will be the same unit. They are good units (Japanese) and with a little care should hold up a long time.
