Thinking of getting a 24 inch Tsumura lightweight bar for ported Stihl ms362 to use when felling/bucking large trees and occasional noodling to make large rounds more liftable. Now, I have a 20 inch Stihl Rollomatic bar on it, full comp chain. I have never used full skip or semi skip. Would either be a good choice or just stick with full comp?

EDIT: This is for hardwoods.

I think you will like the skip chain! Sure wouldn't hurt to try it!

I run skip and full in my 12 24" bar's
The skip is choppy in cutting dead ash.
But it cuts good.
Full comp is smoother in other woods.

I ran full skip on my ported 361 on a 24 inch. Don't push it too much, and be patient, and it will get the job done.

Personally I hate full skip unless it’s on long long bars 60” and up I don’t care for the vibrations even with square, 32 to 50 I run semi skip which is what I run most of the time smooth and fast.

What's the main advantage, less sharpening time? (I edited post to say this is for hardwood, it would be big oaks.)

It's mostly about resistance. More teeth, more power is needed. It also lets the engine keep higher RPM in the wood, which means it will oil the bar more while you cut. I dunno how well the 362 oils, but more oil on a 24 inch bar won't hurt.

And chip clearance.

I have a loop of both for my 24" bar.

I run full comp on my 6100. Granted its ported but I just let it do the work and it works great. Not everything in life is a drag race. The smoothness is much better at this short length of bar.

Plus you can sell a 84dl full comp loop faster than a skip loop lol.
