Just wanted to know. Doing a total rebuild on a Efco 156.
Who uses sealer on case gaskets? Yes or no should I use it?
How about Lotite on bolts high strength or medium strength?
Loktite all bolts or some?
What else special I should look for?
I have saw cleaned and ready for reassembly.

Thanks

I've probably put together about ten cases to date, not nearly as many as alot of guys in here...But I have not used sealant on the case gaskets or Loctite on case bolts. I just be sure the case mating surfaces are clean and free of any oily residue and assemble them dry. I have not seen any indication that the factory used gasket sealant or Loctite on case bolts and I have not had any problems yet with my method.

Sealing cases with sealant is optional, some times I do, some not. If I do Hi-Tack works well and holds it in place. Heck, you can spray paint both sides of the gasket and install it before it dries if you want an extra insurance against a leak.
Do NOT use high strength Loctite, Medium or "Blue" is more than adequate if it is to be used, I usually do if it's behind a flywheel or clutch, they never get seen until... Otherwise just make sure bolts are good and tight when you install them.

The most important thing about keeping case bolts tight is cleaning the threads with something like carb cleaner to get them clean and dry. I use a q-tip to clean threads in the hole. Then they usually hold without loctite.
I wet both sides around the oil tank portion of the gasket with red loctite before assembly to add assurance the oil won't make its way into the crank.
