All kidding aside, good on ya for figuring this out

My son is a hard core vape guy and those folks seem to know the most about lithium batteries and getting the most out of them

They are always looking for cells to rejuvenate and build into "Tesla Walls" among other things

I sent him a link to your mod

Full disclosure.

I didn't really figure anything out.

I watched a YouTube video.

Then, after seeing that it really worked, I thought it would make an informative thread.

Is lithium the same as nicad in the sense that it forms crystals in the battery and prevents it from charging, then by reverse polarity back feeding breaks up the crystals and allows for charging again.

Can I send you an old battery and have you hot rod it like you do saws? It’d be awesome to have a Mastermind Work Battery.

Also, just asking for a friend - where can my friend get one of those 18v butt plugs?

I have no idea.

Will this work for non lithium battery packs?

I have no idea.

Any risk of the battery pack exploding into flames like those videos we've all seen?

I have no idea.

if he would have posted the YouTube link it might help

I'll try to find it.

When a battery pack consisting of multiple cells "dies" then there is a high probability that one or more cells are defective and create an increased self discharge of the entire pack.
If that is the case the pack will have a reduced capacity and most certainly a faster voltage drop due to the defective cell(s).
A dead Lithium-Ion (Polimer) cell holds next to no capacity.
I would check each cell and replace any that show particularly low voltage and/or leakage/oxidation.

If the battery pack "died" due to neglect leaving it to sit uncharged for a prolonged period of time, or having it discharged and then left sitting, then this is a viable resuscitation method as the batteries built in protective circuitry won't allow charging if the batteries voltage is under a predefined voltage.

I revived a couple single cell mobile phone batteries with the direct charging technique, some worked fine afterwards, others just died again.
I had a 14.4 volt battery pack (4 lithium cells) that would not charge, I took it apart and one cell was all oxidized at the positive pole reading 0.01 volt on my multimeter. I cannibalized the pack and fixed a cordless vacuum cleaner with two of the three healthy cells.

When reviving lithium batteries I am very cautious and try the direct charge method with low current only, after all one just needs to get the voltage up so that the OEM charger can do its thing.

There are still people who insist that's what brought down the Malaysian airliner that disappeared a few years back

They had a cargo of Li-Ion batteries in the hold

Arctic Recoil handle? (looks {suspiciously} like the Stihl spring start would mod right into that center hole)
New Glow Plug mod for those hungover mornings!

some years back.
I was trying to find a DIY recipe for the gel/adhesive on TENS unit pads.
Wanted to make some homemade ones, as the store bought ones are sorta pricey. (never did find the homemade conductive goo info)
Instead... I ran across a web site devoted to all of the "unorthodox" uses of electro-stim units.
Gotta admit that the idea of hooking the pads to the stereo kinda had a moments appeal.
Hey, who needs that big woofer or headphones anymore when ya do this!
mmmmm, then you remember the risks of not having any over-current protection and proper (medical grade) isolation from power line potential.

On the topic of batteries... if you are trying to make a new battery pack...you really need a spot welder. It IS possible to diy one using a heavy 12v relay, big capacitors and a power supply.

It really is the best way to tack weld the tabs onto the cells.

Carry on gents :)

If lithium cells have spent significant time below 2.7v each, please be careful.

Before the current range of high power flash lights were available I was into modifying torches.

One of them being a 1200W 28V air craft landing light conversion, used a PAR 64 GE 4556 lamp and 38V 10Ah lipo battery setup.

I let the batteries stay at around 1v each for a while, as I had 12 weeks of offsite work, anyway I decided to risk charging them, it did not end well. Luckily I always charged it outside.

Rapid venting with flames would be the description.
