Nice runnin saw ! I'd love to own one of them solo's. Thanks for the video. This newer style Makita does have the D.V. on the clutch side of the saw. Not the biggest problem but I believe the kits are made for the recoil side. I know there were some changes with exhaust also. Just wasn't sure if it mocks up without modification. Think I'm gonna go oem if I can't find a decent deal on a 54mm kit with caber

I don't care for cheap coated pistons. The coating sometimes comes off quickly and the piston fit gets sloppy.

I'd like to find a good price on an oem. Few places have them. If some site sponsers have an offering that'd be great lets see.

Another thing about the BB kit is resale. You put the 7910 top end one you add value. BB no matter what brand most people buying would look at it and price it as there's no top end on it and expect to replace it. I know I'd pay the same as it was a 6400 unless you sent the cylinder off to US chrome.

Point taken ! The aftermarket NiSi isn't of reliable quality still ?

Once you go grinding on the ports it can chip easier than oem. I won't port any non oem cylinders.

I have only used Oem, Wiseco, Meteor, Golf and caber rings ....... No personal use of the cheap kits yet to see the quality sacrifice. I do have a 346xp 44.3 mm kit I never installed. Casting and cylinder look nice to me.

Oh sure , I follow you there. I have seen the Meteor cylinders chip some but I didn't feel was made to be a concern/issue. I am a machinist/programmer by trade, so it was more easy to do some porting when I started as the tools were already in my arsenal. Still have much to learn when it comes to what works well and what doesn't to get the best intended results.

I've not ground on a meteor. A lot of times the transfers are smaller on BB and you need the volume to make a better runner.

I have read about this on these kits. The truth is .... Not long ago I sold a 09' 7900 that I bought brand new and kept cherry , only 3 tanks through it mostly playing. I needed money and sold the powerhead for $700. I just can't have near that into this one, a nice used $350 Makita 6421. $200+ for a oem kit = $550+ into this one. I'm starting to have sellers remorse !

Yep. It happens. You'd probably be able to get the $550 for it with oem kit if you had to sell later on

Is there an alternative slab sided piston you can use on the big bore kit
Something with a longer skirt
