Atv cart for firewood

Just wondering what everyone’s running for atv trailers.
I bought a Polaris 500 last year and used it in a few small bush lots where the land owner didn’t want a tractor in there skidding.
Plus not having to trailer/ drive the Massey out is immensely less hassle.
My old homemade wagon is falling apart but it looks like solid trailers are $800 plus so I’d rather know what I’m getting into before I buy.
I’ve mostly been looking at the 4 wheel yutrax but I’m open to anything.

I've been using this one for about 13 years, filling way over the top with ratchet straps and bouncing thru woods and pastures. Have had to reinforce the corners with steel plates due to cracking in cold weather but still in use every week, pulling behind 350 cc ATV.

Father in law also has outdoor wood furnace and uses this one we gave him in 2006, only fix has been tire replacement, he used a 500 cc ATV before his current Kubota SxS

Mine is a little more maneuverable in tight woods, but I'll probably go with something larger like the polar cart if and when mine ever dies. We had a steel Cub Cadet cart before these, and these are much better and a heckofa lot quieter!

I use a riding mower dump trailer. Doesn't hold much but is as least twice what a wheelbarrow holds, is more stable (dropping less wood) and sure is easier on me. On craigslist you can find them for a small cost. Easily under 100 and even less if you have to do some welding.

Ohio steel trailers caught my eye but I can’t find one in Canada for less then $8-900, if it was 4-500 it’d be a no brainer.
I’ve thought of buying cheap for now but I try my best to be a buy once cry once type of guy so just wanted kick tires a bit, keep my eyes peeled on the second hand market

Maybe check out Peavy Mart. They’re going out of business and have some good sale prices on. Not sure if they would still have anything but might be worth a look

Good call Mike. Owen sound’s is pretty barren now, I didn’t see any in Guelph but I’m sure a couple calls to other locations could turn up a bargain.

Do you have the ability to fab something yourself or have a buddy that you might do some trading with? I built a small tilt trailer to haul the tiller and garden tools to the garden fairly cheap. Most expensive part was the wheels/tires and hubs. I’ve been looking at building a tandem using the method I saw on the Tick Creek Ranch FB page. They use it on a log arch, but it would work great on a trailer too. We had some of the Bosski dump trailers for trail maintenance on another WMA. They had a brake controller in a box and you wired the pigtail into your brake light and battery. Worked great for hauling gravel and firewood. They are not cheap though!

Also I forgot to mention I put a 2" ball hitch on my polar, don't like using pins.

I do have a buddy who’s a fantastic welder, horrible on a saw so we trade work quite a bit.
But it would still end up costing the same or more as a new one but then it would be exactly what I want.

I used 2” square for my axle, stub axle kit from Northern Tool, I’m sure you all have something similar. ATV wheel/tire combo from Northern as well. 2x2x1/4” angle for the frame. 2” square for the tongue. No springs, just used triangulated 2” tube to raise it to the height I wanted. I’ll try to get some pics this weekend.

A friend of mine welded this up for me probably 20 years ago. 2 sets of tires and three bed rebuilds later it’s still going strong. The trex decking on the last go round was a huge upgrade and has been way more durable than the previous treated lumber.
The only thing I would maybe do differently now is make it a deck over. It is very stable in the woods whereas a deck over might not be unless you add suspension and I’m not willing to dick around with that. KISS….

I forgot all about stub hubs. My welder buddy is doing work on my 1 ton soon so I’ll throw my cart now in the bed and get him to weld new hangers and hubs as the wheels and bearings on it now are beat to death.
Get some new boards from another buddy with a sawmill and I’ll be in tip top shape.
