When my 262 got knocked on the head part of the carnage was broken fuel inlet nipple on its 87 carb.
It wasn't holding tune anymore (kept having to richen to try and tune, but would keep leaning. It would idle and transition perfect).

The used replacement nipple seemed a bit loose -- I think I read somewhere once one of these is removed it's best to replace with new.

Plastic part of course broke off, fighting with vise grips for a while broke off inside fitting housing... few choice words later.

Used the technique in this video so I thought I'd share. Soft metal self thread screw but stronger than brass works great. I had to pull out 3 pieces but in the end I got a clean end of the old fitting out w/o the screw going into where it shouldn't (flush with end of fitting).

Pictures -- hopefully I didn't wreck the housing too bad, each portion of brass the outer part is still smooth (except of course the part that is on the outside that I ended up ripping off w/ vise grips).

New parts from e-replacement parts right off carb IPL from 1991 262 looks exactly right.

Going to clean the housing the fitting gets pressed into w/ a cue tip moistened w/ a little fuel or whatever to make sure no brass chunks -- the last part on the long unbroken screw came out very clean... hopefully I've saved my 87 to run right another day. Extra 87 inlet has your name on it @drf255 Al !

Any of you guys use permatex when installing these? I'm hoping I can use a simple clamp to press the new one in, but it's at a bit of a whacky angle I'm hoping I don't have an issue there.

All back together. If the plastic or brass being loose was the problem or part of the problem it shouldn't be anymore -- very tight after pressing in w/ Irwin quick grip clamp to go easy on the plastic.

Will go try and tune it ... if it's still got troubles I'll have you guys see what you think at the CT GTG.

I am psyched -- as expected the saw was super rich from before trying to tune w/ the inlet being leaky.
Set it at about 14000 or 14100 (being conservative) and it's holding perfectly, cutting like it's old self (or updated self after it had been gone through by Mastermind Worksaws!)

Thanks again Dr. Al @drf255 for doing some surgery when the saw got hurt. I've got a nice set of brand new HDA87 genuine Walbro nipples (I'm sorry they don't belong to Genuine Jill) that are yours when I hit the CT GTG.

I've got a 365 special I'm going to start ordering parts for (a friend of ours cooked the cylinder) to continue learning. I was a chicken chit when it came to changing out a case half on the 262 (I know they are easy but this saw is my collectors item). Seems 262s are the one Husky saw Al doesn't mind working on :)

Thanks for sharin guess you never know when a nipple might go south. Hopefully the cylinder on that 365 clean up and checkout Mastermind thread on removing the transfer on cylinders. I can try to find you a link

Top cover got crushed when a tree whacked the saw and broke fuel inlet nipple. Was dang lucky it only broke the inlet nipple off and no other damage to the elusive HDA87 carb! Al had a spare from another carb but it was loose when installed on this one. Brand new inlet pressed in did the trick I'm glad brand new walbro part found at ereplacement parts.

I've seen Randy's aluminum transfer removal thread. Will dive into the 365 as a winter project and work it or set it up as 372 piston / cylinder. Thanks man!
