I ordered up a set of Pro Safety dogs off feebay the other day. They were an oddball design, finally found some info on the net about them, prosafety made 3 types of dolmar dogs at one time, a 5 point, a 4 point and a 4 point B model for backbar. These are the B models that arent made anymore. Looking forward to trying them out, anyone ever used them before? 12368-14959b103d07ff7127fb2dae2837ed5a.png 20220430_194537.jpg 20220430_195427.jpg

I had the pro safety 4 points on my old 6401. Huge improvement in grip over the stock ones.

Get you a set David, you'll see what I mean. @davidwyby

I think you have my old set Wilhelm. I remember sending them to Sondre for you a few years ago.

@Wilhelm
I wanna try some WCS 3 points. I like the dolmar crescent shape. Short at the bottom to reduce stalling leverage and longer at the top to keep my knuckles off the log.

WTF happened to Your saws OEM spikes!? o_O

I like the Klingon OEM spikes the most.

No idea. They were like that when I bought it. Im guessing someone ground them down for cants and firewood.

Me too. What did you not like @Thumper88 ?

The stockers were basically no existent, either they were tiny from the factory or very ground down. I couldnt dog into anything and I use the saw for firewood and like to dog in when bucking. These definitely dog in better and stay put.

OEM spikes, left to right:
- small EU style , available in Europe
- US style 1 , NLA , dubbed "Klingon" or "Star Trek" - my favorite
- US style 2 , available

#2 are my favorite. Grip much better than the #1 and keep your knuckles off the log.

I like the #2 on my 7900's as they tend to wear my 36" B&C when needed (which may change with the 9010's coming into play).
But on 24" and under I really prefer the #1. :)

They are fantastic if you're running enough bar. They are long and rhey do eat up bar length. I had a set od my 390XPW with a 32" bar before I sold it and the set in the picture is on my 064 with a 34" bar. I had them on my 500i with a 28", but I like it better with the stainless 5 point dogs off the 064. That middle point being at the exact kerf of the chain makes it easier for me to eyeball lining up the notch and the backcut. They are worth the money to me, but probably larger and more aggressive than what some people like. This is the dull saw. 20220423_174808.jpg

I’ve seen the guys doing precommercial thinning flatten dawgs off like that to keep them from getting black berries caught up in them.
