I'll give it a try tomorrow and see how it does, thanks. The last 562 I did I filed approx 1/3 off the FW key.
I did it as part of a full wood port job so how much was gained just from the timing advance I really can’t say. I know the saw ran well after and didn’t have any signs of pre detonation
You have to file part of the flywheel key off so that you will be able rotate the flywheel counterclockwise and then tighten it down in that position.Ive heard that these saws do really like a slight timing advance. I am contemplating doing one to mine. Just not 100% on how to do it lol.
I'll do it today and post the results.Maybe do some timed cuts to see what you actually gain? You can always put it back to stock if it doesn’t gain or if you experience popping.
Awesome saws, thanks!I timed two different ported 562’s, both saw a significant gain with 1/3rd keyway advance.
I got 18.5-19 seconds before timing advance and 19-19.5 after. Wood must’ve changed since you said it’s stronger?I advanced it about a third of the key and it seems like it helped it out.
I didn't time it, just how it felt.I got 18.5-19 seconds before timing advance and 19-19.5 after. Wood must’ve changed since you said it’s stronger?
I just checked the times and I got, 22, 20,21 before and 19, 19 and 21 on the last cut was cutting into the rounds underneath. Not really a big difference before and after but it did feel stronger..I got 18.5-19 seconds before timing advance and 19-19.5 after. Wood must’ve changed since you said it’s stronger?
Yup tough to time your first cut since you stopped at the end. I guess you might as well keep the advance anyway? Since it’s not worth the hassle to pull flywheel again and it didn’t loose anything.I just checked the times and I got, 22, 20,21 before and 19, 19 and 21 on the last cut was cutting into the rounds underneath. I'll leave it the way it is, I didn't do much to the cylinder but maybe on one with an all out port job it would make a bigger difference.Yup tough to time your first cut since you stopped at the end. I don't think I'll be doing anything more to it, it's mainly a 20" saw and it's got plenty of torque for that. You gonna try to find more torque with staggering the uppers roof next?
