OK, so instead of derailing the saw want list thread with this question, lets discuss it here.

In my mind, the Dolmar being 79cc and the old XPW being 75cc, they would be pretty darned close. Factory claimed HP ratings would agree, with Dolmar claiming 5.7 and the Husky 5.6. But we all know it's not simply about the net HP.

So, how do they compare? Stock? Modded? Lets hear it. Got some vids?

Hmm.. Dolmar website lists the 7910 at 5.7. Were the 7900's rated higher?

And I have the Husky product book for the year my XPW is and it shows 5.6.

Regardless of what the website may say, I never noticed any power difference between an oem 7900 vs a 7910. The 7910 has a unique sound. The 7900/10 has more torque and I feel it's more responsive as well.

I was hoping you would jump in here. :)

I've seen it said that the 75cc XPW is a more torquey saw than the OE 372. Matter fact, my brother has a 372 XT and he has always said that my XPW seems to have more grunt. And that is something he said when both were stock, and still now as both are modded fairly equally. That's what has me curious about how the 7900/10 compares to the 75cc XPW specifically.

For the record I like all the saws lol all of them...I want to take them all home haha

To be honest I like the 576 over the 372 personally ;)

I get ya... I'm pretty much the same way... Sure I have my favorites, but much respect for a well built product no matter the color scheme. :Saeufer:

I like to see comparative discussion.

I swapped a 7900 muffler onto my 7910 and it still sounds different than a 7900

SLR Muffler, new Cylinder with top side deco, the new lightweight piston same as late model PS-7900's New crank, new coil and a different flywheel. The carb has adjustment screws and a vent hose off the metering pump cover.

Those are the difference's someone posted when 7910 came out, so yep there is a few. And you can only get 7910 piston and cylinder kits OEM now that come with a new top cover for the decomp relocation. No more 7900 OEM kits and I have read on here that the 7900 muffler does not line up exactly perfect with the 7910 cylinder so some slight modifications may be required?

I don't have the 372 weight on hand, but a 7910 comes in at 14.7 lbs out of the box dry.

The biggest difference I have noticed with the Dolmar is that it seems to have a recognizable advantage in torque over the 70-75cc saws. I buck logs for a living, I find the 372 to be not as gutsy as I would like but I really don't like hauling my MS660 around all day. I take the Dolly. I am also addicted to the noise it makes.

As far as ported goes? They both seem to respond strongly to modification.

My saw with a muffler swap (read, not nodded just a 7900 muffler) would beat a muffler modded ms460 with a low hour rebuild by 2 seconds in the same wood...but who's counting? I like running that 460 as well, makes a great racket!

Yes @Roost426 it is not a direct swap

IDK, to be honest I haven't kept up on the whens and wheres for the GTG's. Coming into a pretty busy time of the year for us now... Looking to knock out next winter's wood, get the boats out and serviced, switch my JD over from snowblowing to lawn mowing, and before we know it we will need to get ready for our 10 day camping trip in the Adirondacks at the end of June.

I'm gonna start trying to make some though..soon
