Anyone have success shaving some weight off a 372 xt piston? My Hyway pop up piston weighs more then my stock piston by a few grams. Weight is 99 grams I'd like to shave some weight off.

Would the extra weight be in the popup portion of the piston?

I have shaved a couple of grams of the inside of the skirt but hesitate to go too crazy
Yeah, taking off too much inside would make it weaker. I have not taking to modifying pistons yet, though I do clean them up as best as possible. I wasn' t sure if part of the pop up portion was also popped up on the underside too or if it is flat and you have the standard piston weight + the pop-up material vs. if the pop-up portion was extruded (so if you shaved of the pop up you would have a hole in the top of the piston). If it is not extruded, then I would suppose it would be possible to remove some of the material from the underside of the piston under the pop-up and not weaken it, might be worth a try.

I have taken material off the inside and windows of pistons already. It will be hard to get a lot of savings on a large complex non-windowed piston like the 372. It takes lots of grinding to make much of a difference.
