Ok since the sale thread is already dead I gotta ask. Ported 357 or ported 359? For those of you who really know and love the models I ask what is your favorite? Or a hybrid ?

I know Don has experience with both the 357 and 359. From what I remember, think there is stuffers in the 357, Walbro carb instead of zama on the 359, maybe better quality cylinder in the 357. ? Ported- you are going to close the gap on the differences between the two.

I have a Master Moobs built 359. Very strong. Have never run a ported 357.

Ive had 2 ported ones- one was NOS when I sent it to Randy. They are awesome. That nos 359 is probably the only saw, I truly have ever regretted parting with. I kept reading the favorable comments on the 357xp and decided I had to track one down so started a want ad. @skippy found 2 NOS ones. He fronted the money and paid cash for both of them from the dealer, then sent me pics of both saws and let me choose which one I wanted. He put it in the mail before I paid him. Speaks to the caliber of person that Chris is.

Wolverine gave the why. Also the Walbro 199 carb instead of the zama

Not really. I've read some guys remove the stuffers. A carb swap is simple if that's the holdup. So is it better cylinder timing or something else?

359 got Walbro carbs too in the earlier years. Pretty sure they made the switch to the Zama carbs the same time the 357 did and for the same reasons.

It was in 2006 mid year when they changed. Not sure what the issue with the Wahlbro is but mine on a 359 only lasted 2 wks back then, took it back and put a Zama on it, nvr had another problem, my friendhas it now and still going strong. I going to rebuild the Wahlbro and put it on the 357xp, they say they flow more fuel then a Zama

If the Treemonkey solution (carb kit K24-HDA and a 1/8" hole in the metering diaphragm cover) doesn't fix a Walbro 199, good chance the accelerator pump is shot and as of last I knew Walbro does not currently offer accelerator pump service parts. Until Walbro decides to make those arts available, a 199 with a bad pump cannot be fixed to my knowledge.

Can't remember how many for sale ads I have made and punched delete before posting. I did sell a MM261 and bone stock 026 to get hooked up with a ported 357. We are all sooooo screwed with this cad thing. lol
