I had a 390xp with a 385 cylinder masterminded saw it was a real nice saw but I sold it. I didn't include that saw only because I wanted to try a 288 I just think they sound really cool and I heard they are very well built saws

We ran the 288's back in the late 90's they were a pretty good saw and don't remember any complaints above normal. if I had a choice between the two I would go 661 just due to smoothness and power. if your a guy that doesn't need a bigger saw all the time the 288 will suit you perfect.

288 parts are readily available. The saw is still in production in Brazil.

It's still produced in South America, not sure about parts here though.

A new chain is way slower than a good proper ground one that's down to 50%.
