Dang. When I read the title I thought there was gonna be a showdown video.

Sorry guys I wish I had both to do a comparison of but I don't own either saw. Yet....
Thanks for the responses so far I have decided to start with picking up a nice 288xp I am currently searching for one

I had a 390xp with a 385 cylinder masterminded saw it was a real nice saw but I sold it. I didn't include that saw only because I wanted to try a 288 I just think they sound really cool and I heard they are very well built saws

We ran the 288's back in the late 90's they were a pretty good saw and don't remember any complaints above normal. if I had a choice between the two I would go 661 just due to smoothness and power. if your a guy that doesn't need a bigger saw all the time the 288 will suit you perfect.

It's still produced in South America, not sure about parts here though.
