IMG_8782.JPG Why is one intake manifold threaded for 4mm bolts and the other for 5mm bolts?
All I have are the 5mm bolts.
And the only good manifold I have is threaded for 4mm.
Guess I won't be bringing this POS to the GTG... :cursing:

By far one of the worst designed saws I've had the pleasure of working on. This one has been trouble since day 1

Anyone have a couple 4mm bolts?
I assume they must have some sort of plastic sleeve on them so they self center in the carb body?

The plastic sleeve also is there to help with reducing heat transmission into the intake body/carb.

Glad it's not just me. I dread turning screws/nuts/bolts ect on husky's . Am always thinking...wtf were these guys thinking when they put so many different fasteners in the same chassis. Only good thing is so many guys here run then that they will always have the answer to ...wtf were they thinking

As mentioned the early 266 had a problem with heat soak into the carb. Fuel would boil an it would vapor lock or go lean in the cut. Husqvarna solved this problem by putting plastic sleeves over the bolts to serve as insulators. Consequently they had to reduce the diameter of the screws so that there would be room for the sleeves. Jeremy you need the later style screws, @Spike60 probably has them in stock.

The sleeved bolts did not appear until the 266 was replaced by the 268XP.

The 162/266/630 intake was always a 4 bolt set up. 2 bolts to hold the block to the cylinder, and 2 carb bolts that went into the block. There are a few different blocks and different length bolts, as some of the bolts go further into the block. So, of course they don't all mix and match. I've got what you can still get Jeremy, so if you want to bring that 266 with you on Sunday, we can probably get it together. You need the carb bolts, not the block bolts, correct? I have the gaskets if you need them.

Maybe someone rethreaded the M5 one?
Once the threads of the M4 are stripped it's a perfect fit for M5.

I'll bring it.
That way you can see what I'll need.
Thanks Bob

Thanks for the correction Bob, I would have sworn it was a running change in the 266, guess I just haven't had enough coffee yet this morning.

Quick look at the 4 intake styles in this saw family. From left to right, 61, 268/272, 266/630, and 670 Jonsered with the boot set up.

61's had a through bolt, with no sleeve. 272 had the sleeved bolts, and that's why the bolt holes in the cylinder are smaller diameter. Notice the 266 bolt holes are inverted from the other two, as they are where the intake block bolts go, and the carb bolt orientation will then be the same as the rest. None of the 266/630 intake blocks are available, but 61 and 272 blocks are in both OEM and AM options.

It all seems fairly simple....
