I have some patterns I mocked up... I kinda wanna keep mine somewhat factory looking for a 2-series. I think this particular saw is a 254xp.

Somewhere in the past I picked this one up. No idea when or how..but it’s similar to what you guys are talking about...and I don’t have the matching inner.

Hmmmmm.....dang

Would take some fabricating but I might be able to make that work? Don't need the gap between the bar studs for the side chain tensioner..plate that in, relocate the holes to align the outer dog with the inner? Might be doable with a bit of fiddling

Those are the biodegradable versions. Sweet

I guess if he wanted to go heavy duty he could make them out of milk jug plastic.

That's the "Pro Safety" brand outer dawg. They were sold by Madsen's for years until Pro Safety stopped making them. There was also an aftermarket full-wrap handle for the 262 available for many years.

All these options look great! Anything to keep the muffler off the dern log! I’m going to try small 372 dogs, I think they will function well and not eat up so much bar length

I was thinking about standard 372 dogs as well. But since the 357 WC inner bolts right up.... Well, kinda hard to shy away from that

You know me and dogs. They gotsta be the “right size” for the saw in my weird little world. But yes bolt on certainly has appeal to it

Picked up a set of standard 372 dogs from the dealers junk pile the other day. After I got the inner dog modified to fit my 262, it made the juice not worth the squeeze on making the outer dog work. It would have to come up a full bolt holes to be even with the inner. All said and done I'm happy with the 372 inner dog. It will better protect the muffler in those situations when the muffler gets mistakenly used for a bucking dog. All the modifications were made to the lower mounting bolt area to make it work, even was able to use the roller chaone catcher but I had to shim it out with two small washers so the roller base wouldn't be pressed against the case. While Joe was working on his dog I went to work on my own creation. I used a pair of 272 inner dogs, I made an outer by cutting the tail off of a small 372 dog then welding it onto the 272 one. The inner requires a little filing to make it fit and the outer needed lots of eyeballing and fit checking. I think it came out pretty nice. Good size for the 262, and most importantly the bigger dog will help keep my muffler off the log.
