Sounds good. Ideally, it would kick out the empties a foot or so. I've always liked the Mini 14 but those things eject into the stratosphere. The AR's I have fired don't throw them very far.

Sounds good. My .223's are loaded mild, around .221 Fireball level, so that shouldnt be a problem. Do AR's normally cycle light loads well?

Gas setup and buffer will matter on that

I've got some like that that attach with a Velcro strap around the rear of the hand guard. They work well but the brass tends to wear a hole in the mesh pretty quickly. A strip of duct tape on the inside, where the brass hits, helps.
Occasionally CDNN has them for around $10.
