The 390 and some aftermarket are thicker flanges and stick out further when it’s put in a 372 series.
Maybe it was a 390 muffler then. All I know is the 2166 bracket stuck out farther from the saw than I liked, swapped it back to the one that was on it when I got it from you and it worked fine.

It possibly was a 390 muffler then. I had probably bent the bracket already when I mounted it on my 372

I’ve never had a problem with installing the bracket or muffler on a 372/390. I’ve put the 390 muffler on the 372... as well as a 372 muffler on a 390. It helps to install the 4 screws loosely to get things aligned. Then tighten them gradually, with the top two first and then the bottom two. The newer oem brackets are stronger than the older ones I found. More reinforcements.

I'm glad you haven't, and I only did once.
Pretty sure it wasn't just me, since I was able to get it on there no problem with the other bracket ;).
Why force it if you have what it takes to install it without?
I'm sure those directions will help someone.
