The wifey has been itching for a new brat buggy and we have been looking for something decent we could pay cash for. We found a one owner 2008 Honda Odyssey at the local stealership with a body and interior in surprisingly good shape. Has 200k miles but sure doesn't look it. Drives great and everything works. Momma wanted it, so we bought it for $3660.00 out the door.

So, what have we got here? I'm a former Toyota tech and am going to do a timing belt, plugs, and replace a seeping transmission cooler hose among other basic maintenance things. Otherwise it drives great and doesnt seem to have any real problems. Any trouble spots on these vehicles to be aware of? The best part is, momma has her new vehicle so now I have the green light for a 'Stang!

They warp front rotors every 8-12k.

They break the front and right front engine mount alot. Noticable feels like the trans slips on moderate accel or brake torque it and watch the engine jump up!

Front strut mounts like to make noise. A lot!

VCM engines oil foul sparkplugs on cyl. 1,2,3,4. 08-13 MY.

Thats about it...

Things they do well,

Carry 8 people:D

Get 26-32mpg on the highway:D

22-24 around town:D

Can out run a mustang:eek::D

Over 500 miles per tank:D

Handle almost like a sport sedan:D

I think you and your wife will be happy. You should have said you where in the market for one. I have a 15 that id let go cheap!

We have had an 04, 11, and our current 15. All had the issues above.

Yoda doesn't have cylinder deactivation. The J35 Honda s will run on half an engine!

They work well on wifes Town & Country, but for work vehicle that spends half its life on gravel roads, was not fond of Honda....

But doesn't that cut the engine life in half?

Power sliding doors are amazing! Will not ever own one without one!

TROOF! I thought I wasn't going to like them at first but man are they sweet!

And added bonus no one will get their hamd slammed in a door.

It has power sliding doors and all the typical options you would find on an Odyssey. Hopefully can get it home tomorrow.

Are you dragging an AWD unit around in yours? I am, and it definitely hurts mileage.

And... sometimes the bearing goes out of the viscous coupler:

No, wasn't a fan of not having a spare tire. Plus I figured if I was going to go AWD might as well get a Highlander

The sliding doors on the Sienna are WAY better than a Highlander (I had a 2002 years ago) for kids. We need AWD to get up our township road in winter, so that means Sienna or Quigley conversion van. The Sienna is cheaper...

Those doors are nice and its amazing how much cheaper they are. We bought ours 14 in 16 and it was half the MSRP 34000 miles.

No, and I probably wouldn't have bought it if it was!

Worked on the Odyssey some after work, replaced a leaking transmission cooler hose. The plugs are probably original and worn pretty bad and the air filter is filthy, will get new ones tomorrow. Other than that it seems to be in really good shape. A sticker under the hood indicates the timing belt was replaced 14,000 miles ago so shouldn't have to worry about that for awhile.
