Can a moderator or a friend of Dub let him know id like to send him the 3 pairs of boots that got sidelined? Tried reaching out to him but he hasnt been around for quite a while. Hope yer OK Dub! Was thinking he could take them apart and report back to this thread on their construction. Just to keep this thread going. I won't be back in logger boots till April.

What do you wear in the winter up there to keep your feet warm and dry?

Moonwalking in Carolinas View attachment 476191
After getting several years out of Redwings, I was quite disappointed to get maybe 2 months out of a pair of Carolinas before stitching failure. The stitching between the eyelet part and main part of the shoe (upper?—don’t know the proper terms) looked like it was quadruple stitched but only one of the threads was actually going through both layers. The other 3 were just for show.

Mine haven’t gotten enough use to judge

Always had good luck with chips but that may not be true anymore. They revamped everything and are ugly and feel cheaper

I've been considering trying Carolinas--aside from the stitching failure how is the rest of the boot? Do they run big, wide, narrow? For many years Redwing has been the only boot that both fits and lasts a full season.

They were nice otherwise but unless the stitching issue is fixed, I couldn’t come close to recommending them.

FYI, my experience:
Carolina low-heel waterproof loggers were my go to for everyday all-day wear for about 6 years. I'd get a solid year out of them between all-day wear, tromping thru mud and cow poop and firewooding on weekends, etc. Last 2 pairs I had weren't near as good, think they cheaped out on the lining as well as the eyelets and lace hooks, lining started tearing at 2 months, and by 6 months the eyelets had worn to where they were consistently cutting the laces even trying the high-end laces. Replaced the eyelets / hooks and duct taped the lining at the heels (so foot could enter without lining bunching under heel) to get thru the season, but until I hear otherwise I'm done with them. Last pair I bought are the Georgias similar to the OP but low heel, took a little break-in to be comfy on my feet, but at 4 months in no problems.
YMMV

Sorry I missed this. 2002-2010 was the years I was stationed here in Alaska in the Army. Boot of choice then was military issue bunny boots.

2011-2014 I had switched to sorrel intrepid explorer. These are essentially a cloth style mukluk. Since sorrel are so cheap nowadays, they no longer offer a boot of that magnitude so still buy them used. Had a remote ice house and even did some interior travel in 40-60 below by snowmobile.

2016-current Once I started dog mushing in interior, I started running northern outfitters boots. These are also no longer made.

Rubber bottom/leather upper boots like baffin or whites, they just crack out near area where they flex. Oftentimes in less than a season. Garbage.

For general purpose stuff like in the 30 below weather today, firewood chores trail grooming and dog team care, I gravitate towards the cabelas Saskatchewan. They're essentially a gortex-lined mukluk with a very thick 2 piece foot bed and decent insulation.

They also weigh 2.75 lbs a piece. So very easy on my old Army knees. 2.75 lbs per boot seems to be my magic number where Im fleet-footed. Anything heavier, my foot-work gets slow and my knees ache more.

True. I paid less than $100 for mine on sale, but that’s not a deal if they last 10% of the life of a $200 Redwing.
I wish I could get Redwings for $200. Due to the size and shape/proportions of my foot there is one boot that works and the cost now is around $325.
