I put some time on my chips, like ‘em. Wide toe box for my duck/clown feet.
You'd really like the timberland with the roomy toe box. Though a bit too roomy for my skinny Indian feet, it's still a bad a ss boot!

Also, the chippewa Paladin has a big, boxy toe as well. Chippewa has that "in between" width to. Example: 10D, 10E, 10 EE. Im solidly 10d territory. But the 10E are working just fine with a thick sock and proper lace tension.

Those Chips look interesting, nice & wide.

I second Timberlands, old model i had was called the Ripsaw (no longer made), the newer version is called the Evergreen. For years & years I mocked timberland work boots, until I tried their logger.. They're insane, literally the most comfortable Logger Ive ever worn.. they've got some odd suspension system built into them that makes it feel like you're waking on air. My neighbor, who literally has 30 pairs of Chips & has worn them his whole life, refuses to wear his chips anymore & has multiple pairs of the timberlands now too.

Personally, I'm a Hoffman guy now, specifically their mountaineering style boots made for spur climbing. Once i experienced that dual custom shank they build into it, I never looked back. You can Stand on spurs for hours & hours & you wouldn't even know it. Pretty light too.

Standing on spurs and ladder rungs for any length of time will definitely let you know if the boot shank is well constructed or not!

Been in the mid to upper 80's for weeks. The only boot that I can work in is the Georgia G 8010 low heel logger. Everything else, insulated or not, is just too warm.

So lightweight, I could run a marathon in these affordable gems.

Danner just raised prices again. The super rainforest was $470 couple weeks ago. Theyre now $500. The overseas danner loggers also went up another $30. AWEFUL!

Not totally relevant but somewhat related, for what it's worth, these Reebok work shoes show no wear after a month on concrete in the automotive world.
Super comfortable, super light, alloy toe.

Possibly an alternative for days when a full blown boot might not be absolutely necessary.

Thin soles, thin shank, no support, and don't last. Just my experience with them.
Many of these boots I'm testing are purdy flimsy in the shank. The most flimsy are the Carolinas.

For climbing, the only ones with a shank rigid enough in the arch area are both pairs of Danners, the Redwings and the Chippewas.

Haha.. yes they are.. Clearly haven't tried Hoffmans yet have ya? I've found some of theirs almost too stiff, almost impossible to walk on the ground with when new.. I've found the mountaineering style line boots they modify to be the sweet spot.

Edit -
The La Sportiva Malaku are also a great boot with steel shanks in them. Pretty dang good for spur work.. their just not waterproof as id like & there's no safety toe.

I have made in USA pair of Carolinas with a good shank. They don't make the safety toe USA made ones any more i don't believe.

The off shore made Carolinas I had were flimsy.

Agree completely on the Redwings and Chippewas.

Finally cooling off from that 2 months of constant 80-89 degree weather. Decided to get a new old stock, unlined pair of
Georgia 8100 high heel loggers for warm weather. Standard stars n bars Vibram tread.

It's a stacked heel with a leather footbed. As my heels began to crush the leather where it takes a "set" to my heel shape, I had to lift up the insoles and sink down the nails a bit with a hammer n punch.

The upgraded model of this discontinued boot is georgia forestry logger GB00648

Feet are running a lot cooler. Anything warmer than 75f, I dont want no waterproof liner in a boot.

Did that boot have a sock liner under the foam?

It was in the upper 90s with heat indices between 105-110 degree highs this weekend. I’m very glad I had unlined boots and a fairly light wool sock. I don’t think I would have made it with a Gore-Tex lining.

No sir, just leather, with an extra sliver ah leather tacked under the heel. The thin foam footbed was glued in place and it has since compressed flat. No cushioning. Will definitely add a powerstep orthotic insole.

Holy sht, that's some hot weather! Miserable stuff. I endured that kinda heat for three one-year tours in the Iraq war.

Yeah, I don't miss that weather too, even grew up with it in California.

I didn’t think California got that humid, maybe I’m wrong? It’s a big state and I haven’t been to all of it.

Probably the worst heat and humidity I’ve ever experienced was in Georgetown, SC in August of 2022. Houston, Biloxi, and states on the Gulf are bad too, but it gets hot and then rains and cools down some. That day in Georgetown was just… Awful. Bright, humid, hot.

The dry heat thing is really a thing, though. 90 in Nevada is almost as comfortable as a the muggy 75 we get here in April and May.

Where I was at, it didn't get humid, just hot, same thing with where I was in Iraq, pretty far inland and it was just hot. Qatar on the other hand threw in the humidity and wasn't fun either. I understand Biloxi, was there for 10 months, and that was enough for me. I do prefer dry heat over humid heat.

Here a Redwing logger shank vs a super sole shank if anyone is interested.

Update on the boots:
Bouncing back n forth from the georgia g8010 low heel loggers and the g8100 tall heel loggers.

The g8100, being leather with no liner, lace tension is critical. Sometimes i have to readjust lace tension, as there's nothing protecting yer foot from lace-bite and the laces are too thin. The boots will need a better set of laces. I'm going to try honeybadger brand laces as they're very thick.

Anyhow, If a logger boot is just leather and nothing else, the laces need to be thicker so they wont bite the top of yer foot.
