SOLD (2) McCulloch 640 gear drives

Here is a pair of McCulloch 640 gear drives. A member here asked about them awhile back but then thought they were too big of a project to tackle.

They have say awhile and as you can see one sat on concrete and got magnesium cancer. I do not have any history on them but I will assure you they could tell a tale if they could speak.. The short story. They both turn over with compression, one needs a coil, recoil spring, bolts for the fan shroud and I am sure some other things. The other looks better but has serious magnesium rot as pictured. You truly need to use the two to build a good saw. One has the bow bar guide yet behind the gear but I am keeping that. You can easily swap some parts and build a darn good saw while having lots of parts left over. I think $300 for the pair plus real shipping is fair. If not then trade with me

FWIW I have a 650 gear drive which is 87 cc .I've bored out and keywayed an 8 tooth 1/2" sprocket from a Homelite .That thing has surprised a lot of people making cuts as it's not slow by any means with a 2 to 1 reduction .It is a tad bit heavy though .

I ran one my Homelite 3100G's at Baraboo for years and was never beaten and it is not even 2-1 reduction. I run 3/8 on it

I've got some .404 sprockets but I've never used them .Towards later summer I might get the big saw out and do a little carving on a big cottonwood .It's sat for some time and it might need some attention . The wood is not the best however a 100 plus foot cottonwood 5 feet in diameter has a lot of it .
