You want smeared jugs or clean ones?
Just curious. I sometimes see smeared ones off 460's
Clean ones would be best just so I know what I’m getting. Smeared jugs are quite often ok but until they’re cleaned it’s hard to say what your getting.

Agreed.
I have two here with missing plating under the exhaust ports. I'll solder them and chop one up for fingers on my hybrid.
It will just fell with short runs. It tanks....no worries....just a Meteor-ite :D

Silver tinned at 50%. You can overlay with heavier but I just want to hold down the edge from lifting.

I ran a 460 Stihl jug like this once. It was fine. Sold the jug off later for 50. We laughed at the missing spot and bolted it back up to the guys saw. Far as I know it's still going.

I'm betting a few people are going to try this and fail. It failed on me several times trying it over the years. Nothing holds down cooked up plating or chrome. Those failures are catastrophic.

No. I used jewelry soldering I had forever. Got it who knows where. Might have came from Gus. It was for fixing my yellow brass torch fittings on the magic wand. Worked good on lots of stuff. Bites right in.

Jewelry solder sticks to aluminum,
Got it !
Also, do I need to spin the cylinder on the lathe to make the bore true at the repair spot, or will the solder just stay outta the way of the piston & rings ?

no worries about cylinder temps getting too hot for the solder since the one you did ran so well.

was the repair that you did near the exhaust port ?

That's the easy part.
Text me if you want know how to go through all the prep. You won't like it and you can loose plenty of skin doing it. The good news is you won't blow up. I do believe you can get a better repair with current materials and some applied modern science.
It's like dating....all about the prep and prime ;)
Your going to need some nasty chemicals first....fir da jug...not huew o_O

Your absolutely right, I didn't look at it very closely before posting the link. Thank you for the correction.

Nathan.

Any of you peeps fix a plating issue yet with your ingenuity?

I have to fix up a plating issue this month for the too many hats saw. 50 50 52 52 54. One 52 Stihl jug is a bit bare in one spot, yikes!
