I went and helped a co worker cut some big pines at his house today. Used my trusty 440 and his 029. After we cleaned everything up, he asked me what he owed me. Of course I said nothing and we were shooting the bull in his garage. I looked on a shelf and there sat a 045 AV. I pulled it out and asked him about it. It was give to him by a friend and ran up until last year. He said it just quit while he was running it like it ran out of fuel. I was telling him about this site and BSing some more when he walked to my truck and threw it in the back. He told me it was mine now, anything bigger than his 029 would handle was too much for him anyway! So I am the owner of a Stihl 045 AV with a carb issue, broke shut off switch and JB welded fuel tank. Anyone have any parts laying around? What size is this saw? Are parts available?

Same family as the 056.

This saw has about the same size engine as an MS 650. Loggers used to use them before the 064 and 066 came along. I have one that's dead as a hammer. The original owner burned it out somehow. Parts are hard to find. So, of you keep the beast, you may want to look for a parts saw. The only thing dead on mine is the top end. Cosmetically, it's almost spotless.

Sounds like you and @Dustin4185 need to make one good saw.

I think we live too far apart to share.

I checked it out some and fuel lines are shot. Is Tygon OK to use? Everything else looks good. The fuel tank fix is crude and I may try to grind it down and redo it. Compression is 195. I may tinker with it or put it up for sale.

What would a non running parts saw be worth?

Live too far apart? Nonsense. I bought my Stihl 046 Mag from guy in Tennessee. It was a non-runner. I fixed it and now it's one of the best saws that I own.

A non-running 045 is worth about $100 plus $25 shipping. Heck the carb is worth about that alone. Try to find one that works.
