I think I should start a support group for those who have to install these. However this model is not as bad a that oiler on that 084 Randy did a while back.

I've successfully installed new oil lines on two 036 Stihls now. A while back I bought a kit from DD and was able to use the piece for two saws. My drf255 wasn't oiling and my newest red lever had melted through the line. The second time around was much easier than the first. I have two well oiled 036s now.

I should have taken a few before photos. The lines were ugly. Both looked bulged and melted to the point that it oiled the inside of the case well. I told myself that I'd make the pliers next time I had to do this but of course I did not.

Yeap suckiest part of the saws and regular fuel and impulse line won't work like on the 026's.it fits but the oil just runs by the pump and ferret joints.

Gonna be splitting an 036 case soon for bearings. I guess I should leave the oil pump attached?

Which kit did you buy Pat?

What works the best for me is to cut the hose in half so you have two. I removed the pump and bolt it to side if my workbench through the bolt holes. I put a little oil inside of the hard black hose and get out the heat gun. Once the plastic pipe is hot enough I took a 1/2" copper water pipe cap and put that over the end of the piece and push firmly down. I chamfered the opposite end that goes to bar so it goes a little more smoothly through that hole. But before you attempt to put it in the hole put the spring inside of the hose. After you get it all in it will be a little long and I just trim as square as I can with an exacto knife and push in the brass piece. image.jpg Bought the kit from Dave $12-13.

Sounds like a fun process. I'm running a 20 inch Sugi and the pump seems to barely put out enough oil.

That's how mine was on Al's 036. I actually bought a new oem pump and of course used the new hose. Works awesome now.

This red lever one I just replaced the hose and it works great.

the worst part is getting the brass piece out without damaging it

I had to fit one of these kits to my 064
I got the Stihl kit

What a PITA!

From memory, which is blurred as your mind tends to block out bad memories, I cut the hose in half and got it over the oil pump nipple with much swearing and use of the term "you have to be f@#king joking me".
Put the spring in..... that all went well.
I then fed it through the hole from the pump side and bolted down the pump. I then pushed and bent the tube into position and cut it to length.
To fit the brass bushing I found a pin punch that fit inside the bushing snug, beveled the hose, oiled it (there is always time for lubricant) and tapped it in with the pump and hose in place. This also proved to be a bugger of a job.

I do recall thinking that if I ever had to do it again, I would buy a cheap set of needle nose pliers and drill them to make the tool shown in the instruction book.
I remember looking at it and thinking..... Pffft, I dont need one of them.

Make the tool!

With an 034/036/360, making those pliers is a complete waste of time and waste of resources.

If you don't like the idea or not cognoscent of using an open flame properly, boil the hose in some water. Use the microwave if you want.
But don't go ruining a pair of pliers for no reason.
I could do 4 of these before you got the hole drilled squarely in the jaws of those needle nose pliers.

That makes me feel better about not having the pliers. The heat gun method works well and you can better control the heat if some is worried about the flame.

Atleast if you buy the kit and cut it into halves you have one side to practice on

I needed both sides to practice on...I kinked both of em trying to fit them to the oil pump nipple, of course ruining them. I did manage to practice on the other ends for when I get my new 12 dollar kit that I ordered today... Seems it shouldn't be this difficult..

After searching everywhere for suitable tubing with the correct ID/OD, I've found that white nylon 3/16 ice maker nylon line actually works well. This was for an 026, I'm not sure on the other models. Heat is your friend.

It actually works quite well.

I thought I read a post somewhere where that was used and lasted only a few cuts before it melted...

I boiled the tuning in the microwave .. Then used the heat gun.. Problem was, I think it wasn't heated enough and I pushed too hard and it kinked on me.. I think I got the rythum now. I ordered another kit and will give it another go ...

Al I didn't have any luck with ice maker line. I tried to use the cheap "clearish" stuff (not sure if it was nylon) and it melted after a few cuts. Maybe your's was a different chemical compound or mine wasn't tucked in tight enough behind everything. Maybe the world was just pissed at me that day.

I've used the factory kit now for the last 3 I've done and have not had any problems.

Too much heat.
Just use a BIC Lighter and wave the flame across the tube for a few seconds at a time.
