I sold a really nice 028S with a like new bar/chain on it two weeks ago for $260.00 as a point of reference. They're at about the same price point as an 026.
The earlier 028 versions (not super) sell for considerably less.
"Fear" and I must be having ESP. I did exactly the same thing two weeks ago for the same price. It was a strong runner, so the new owner has a dandy. Now I'm down to a pair. The weaker of the two that I have remaining still runs well.

A hundred is about right in my estimate. There's usually more wrong with a saw than what is advertised. I would want to pull it over to check compression and see if it had any bearing noise..

Well, now I own an 028 Super again as of this evening. Guy wanted to make it part of a deal on the 046 I'm selling. We finally came to an agreement but I wound up selling one saw and buying two for a net gain of one which doesn't fit into my "thin the herd plan". Anyway, once I replace the bent bar (which he didn't realize until I pointed it out to him) and sharpen the hopelessly dull chain, I should be able to get it sold. I need another saw like the proverbial hole in the head. Won't be much margin in this saw...

The STIHL 028 WB is a great saw...

Here are some typical reviews:
  • “Still use my 028 Super, just about every week… And I have 6 other saws.”
  • “One of the best, most durable saws ever made.”
  • “Nice saw but parts are being discontinued.”
  • “My 1989 vintage 028 Super is still going strong.”
  • “Run a 16″ .325 with RS chain and they will cut great.”

I still have my 028 Super and use it every other time I cut. A friend who bought my 028 Wood Boss several years ago told me that he would rather have it than a Super. He hated chain brakes and knew that the Wood Boss was sold without one. He uses the Wood Boss today. Go figure that one our.
