I believe the only difference is the piston and cylinder (bore size) between the two. Looks like you should be able to just put a 440... -

I would leave them in personally. Use a good mix oil at 32:1 and your bearings will be fine

I have heard of people adding stuffers to increase compression, I would imagine if it originally had it and the stuffers were removed...
