    Trailer building...anyone??

I thought the same thing at first, but I think the round upright tube (that is hard to see but visible in the second photo, blended with the trees behind it) is actually the hitch shaft/bearing point.

    Trailer building...anyone??

Thanks for the update. I always enjoy seeing other folks' creativity and problem-solving processes. Nice job on the trailer!

    I should probably introduce myself

Good job! We have grumps at our DMV too; must be a job requirement. Or maybe it's just the constant barrage of fools and rude folks that I'm sure they have to deal with constantly.

    Height adjustable depth gauge tool

That's too bad. I was hoping for a metal one. A plastic one won't work the same, especially a 3D printed one, which this appears to be. I wish you the best of success, nevertheless!

Random pics (that you took) thread...

I figure it must be AI - what would be fueling that fire, unless you're cutting magnesium, zirconium, or some such? Cooling fluid is generally non-flammable. May there was a hydraulic rupture?

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Looks like that axe is designed for chopping but not splitting. The void behind the lower part of the bit leaves the handle wider than the metal due to the taper of the head, which means the handle is going to take a beating on the leading edge. You can see it's taken a lot of impacts before it...

Not so pros 4 new and without politics or drama

Yep, I've worked with those kinds of customers before, doing carpentry work. Some were mildly frustrating, others were infuriating!

    HELP! Vevor chain grinder

On the second one I bought, the bolt head was a tight fit in the recess. It should go down in there quite a ways, from the front to the back, and I had to tap it down in there with a punch to get it to stick through enough to catch the nut inside the thumb knob. The bolt goes through the oblong...

    The cats of OPEforum

I sure am sorry to hear that. It's never easy to lose a furry family member.

    Calling Out The Internet BS

The coloring is certainly attractive, and now is done mainly as decoration, but casehardening was originally used to harden the outer layer of ferrous metal by driving more carbon into it under high heat while leaving a softer inner core, desirable for "toughness" in tools, guns, etc. made back...

    Calling Out The Internet BS

Yep, it's just surface coloration. Even color case hardening on firearms, which is a much more involved process that penetrates somewhat deeper, is pretty fragile (as far as retaining the desirable color, anyway).
