    MS251 Meltdown

Parts showed up yesterday and put it all back together. Found that the brake cover was contacting the clutch drum, caused by some melted scar tissue that had to be removed: All back together with no interference, runs perfect I advised owner not to let it idle or rev with the brake on

    MS251 Meltdown

Thanks fellas! Could this type of overheating happen if running and the bearing starts to degrade gradually, without the long term high idle with the brake on?

    MS251 Meltdown

Our SIL's MS 251 siezed up when running. Brake was stuck and the clutch was locked. It appears this one had a clutch drum needle bearing failure, allowed the drum to shift position, and melt a bunch of plastic nearby: I was able to dig most of the junk out and clean it up, all looks good to...

    Lathe questions??

I looked for a deal like that for 6 months, nothing showed up, which is why I decided to go new. One local seller wanted $2,000 for a 20 year old Chinese Enco 9x20 with drawers of junk files, broken dial indicators, etc. Another seller wanted more for a 5 year old G0602 10x22 than new one...

Could i use this motor on my snow blower?

I replaced the Tecumseh on my vintage Toro 724 snowblower years ago with a Harbor Freight Predator 212. Bolts right on with an adapter for the pulley. Starts on 1st or 2nd pull every time. Way more powerful than before I also keep only one fuel container in the garage, 40:1 mix. These...

    What's on your bench?

Almost as bad, a 24" diameter red oak tree fell on it. Lot's of other damage to the boat also. Finally getting around to tearing out the gears and scrapping the lower unit housing, damage is not repairable. Gears are in perfect shape and may get used or sold.

    Lathes

Current thought is to set bench height so that spindle centerline is 45" above the floor, elbow height. Controls for cross slide would be a few inches below that. Grizzly advised that distance from spindle to chip pan is 11", so that would put the cabinet top at 34" above the floor. Sound...

    Lathes

Thanks fellas, this is a great resource to help me understand how to set up a new Grizzly G4000 9x19 I ordered. Now gathering info on what essential tools I need to get started, for sure a quick change tool rest and some dial indicators. I plan to install it on a new leveled and anchored...

    Bernie’s MS250 Upgrade

Bernie dropped his saw off the other day, and said the new maintenance guy at his shop tried to run it and it would not go above idle. On the bench I found this: Center post on the hand guard was broken off and it was jammed on the muffler in the forward position, locking the brake. No other...

    Lathe questions??

Good info, similar to what I’ve learned in my search Check this thread also: https://opeforum.com/threads/lathes.14434/ , several fellas there are successfully using these 9x20 lathes for chainsaw work I put an order in for that G4000 9x19, I’m OK if it takes a few months. It appears to be a...

    Lathe questions??

Timely thread, thanks for starting this. I've been looking at lathes for a while on CL/Facebook/eBay, lot's of junk out there for sale. I keep coming back to a new Grizzly 9x19 https://www.grizzly.com/products/grizzly-9-x-19-bench-lathe/g4000 as an option for my first lathe and how to learn to...

    Bernie’s MS250 Upgrade

Happy to report saw runs perfect after installation of a Walbro WT-215-1: Old vs new carbs: Put the OEM Stihl coil back in and sharpened both of his chains. Runs, handles, and cuts great, these are nice light saws. Feels more nimble than an 024/026 model.
