    Engine sagging on log splitter

Thanks for the feedback on this. There's a local welding outfit that may be able to weld it without having to pay over $125; I thought that it might be possible to address the sag by cinching down on the bolts holding it into the frame. I like the smaller units for doing splitting for hire...

    Engine sagging on log splitter

I've got a 27 ton Champion log splitter where the engine has been sagging on the frame. The looseness seems to be where the bolts go through to hold it; any ideas on how to remedy this? A friend thinks it may need to be welded. Trailering it around and the stress apparently led to this. Two...

    Log splitter engine oil leak

I spoke with Champion again and ordered a crankcase seal and a shaft seal as it is leaking out the side on the pto end, not the top. For some reason I got confused that it was a head gasket leak which is on top. They have replacement engines on these for around $250 delivered, but mine is...

    Log splitter engine oil leak

I looked at it after finishing the job today after dark with my brother. I spoke to Champion earlier, what is involved besides removing the 12 mm bolts that hold the valve cover on the engine?

    Log splitter engine oil leak

I just spoke with Champion technical support which is always friendly and helpful on various issues connected to their equipment. They said that the oil does not matter much, 10w 30 or 30 sae are ok as well as Lucas oil, just change the oil so it is not dirty, etc.. They said that pulling off...

Firewood thread!!! Let's see what you got!!!!

I'm doing this job with a lot of big oak "wheels". The customer thought that the oak may be no good due to some external rot. A contractor came in and told them that and probably threw out a $2000 estimate to remove the big logs from their property. I told them the wood was fine and at...

    Log splitter engine oil leak

I noticed my Champion log splitter was leaking oil, drip, drip, drip. I had been using the Lucas oil stop leak product, probably put in around 20 oz into the crankcase between the last job in December and this one. I put the top to a tote unit under it. It has the engine shut off when the...

Firewood thread!!! Let's see what you got!!!!

If you're a contractor you have to take the job as it comes; should have upped my per hour price as no one else was going to do it. Also in a fenced in area with dogs/dog crap. Which would be ok if it was below freezing but it has been wet this week.

Firewood thread!!! Let's see what you got!!!!

This job is sort of a pain. Oak has been sitting for 4-5 years the customer said. A lot of rot. Some of the oak sticks are partly buried.

Control valve repair, brother took apart, is this complicated?

A lot of people like the Champi0n 27 ton and 35 ton units, and they are good about backing them up, have sent me a bunch of parts for free. Probably split 250 cords or so between customers and for own firewood. It sure beats the excessively heavy units some rental places have, very hard to...

How are the EFI carb developments going with Stihl and Husky saws?

I was at a shop earlier in the week that had a Stihl efi carb come in for service. The worker talked about "growing pains" with the new advances. I'm happy with how my Husky and Jonsereds run with older standard carbs. What are the advantages of the new saws?
