Got the kit and installed it. Those little piston clips are a real PITA to get in! Shot one across the garage and used one of the old ones...
Fired up nicely! A little stumble if you hit the throttle hard from idle - assume I need to go back into the carb....but otherwise working well!

Thanks - I ended up ordering the $79 kit from HL Supply - Warhawk brand. Figure I need new air filters, plug, gaskets (definitely muffler) so I got in all in one package. Easier than shopping around. We will see how it ends up!
Keeps me just at $200 for the saw - and I can still sell the 16"...
Took the piston off and cleaned it up in the parts washer. Can definitely see some scoring on the sides - top cleaned up nicely :)

Quality is not as good - not sure what happened. But I don't hear a click when going up...
Hmmm - I will check again. I guess I should take the piston off and just do up/down movement from the rod itself - take the piston out of the possibility for play/noise....
Thanks everyone for helping me. I do appreciate it. I was expecting a top end. But what do you all think about the connecting rod play? There is a lot of slop - or so I think….

How much connecting rod play should exist - to me this seems excessive but then I have never been in one of these!

Thanks for the information! Never dawned on me the volume on small engines having an impact - makes total sense. Since my valve is at the end, can we can feel fairly certain that the reading is pretty accurate?
