All cleaned up and going back together...we had to make a couple of gaskets for the pieces that connect the engine to the shaft housing and that slowed things down. I have a bit more cleaning to do on some of the exterior pieces to try and remove some stains but I do believe it will look pretty...
Needs a good cleaning and inspection. We will have to make a few gaskets on the way back together since some were torn during disassembly. I would like to hear it run but I don't think I will go out and buy a boat...the fuel tank is rather rusty inside so this may be another "runs on prime"...
He gets a lot of big logs from a local tree service guy, the 362 was really undersize for many of those. He's running an OWB year round for domestic hot water in 2 homes, a hot tub, and a heated pool (he said the pool was 90° F this week, night time lows have been in the 40's for about 3 weeks)...
I have the parts on order (Saw Salvage AKA The Duke). Thanks for your input.
The owner of the 362 bought a 661 when this one went down so the 362 will only see limited service as they move ahead.

Jumping ahead a bit, I have an MS362C on the bench, very low compression. Piston actually looked O.K. through the exhaust. Not so good when it was all apart.
Looks to me like a ring broke.
Cylinder is trashed as well.
As a "bonus", the PTO side crankcase has a piece cracked off as well...
Slab has been done for almost 2 weeks, contractor stopped by yesterday to let me know he plans on starting the framing next week.
Meanwhile, saws for the display are beginning to pile up...
This 07 is the last of the Stihl saws that Lehman Live Edge left for me in March.

The engines that McCulloch produced for Reed Prentice were not the same as their own chainsaw/welder engines; as a result I don't think the parts from one will just transition over to the other.
That said, you have a piece of ring missing somehow. They should be equal in size and the ring end...
With a little help from Chris pointing me in the right direction, I came up with a way to cut the groove for the circlip. I have a mandrel that closely matched the wrist pin size so I was able to secure that in the piston, the piston in the lathe, and modified a boring cutter to make the...
Someone left me this 041 parts saw a few weeks ago. It felt like pretty decent compression so I thought I'd try to use the short block on my 041 Farm Boss with the plain aluminum bore since finding another chrome plated piston has proven to be very difficult.
However, I found the "flange" on...
