Many of those saw did not use a gasket, the or steel aluminum body of the "muffler" just clamped directly to the cylinder. That said, gaskets were used on other models (PM6, 300 Ser) that match the mufflers on the Mini Mac saws, 68747, 83948, and 84992 are all examples of gaskets that will...

So what did you do today?

@EFSM - thank you so much for that lead, it is indeed the governed carburetor. I had not encountered that before on an HL model and missed it completely as I went through the carburetor. Now if the owner of the saw can find the guard I can call it complete. Mark

STIHL The Official Stihl Chainsaws Thread

Thanks Ray - the Clymer manual shows the governed carburetor and @EFSM pointed out in another thread that some had that limiter rather than the air vane governor. Now I don't have to spend hours investigating a mysterious ignition issue that does not exist... Mark

STIHL The Official Stihl Chainsaws Thread

Thanks JJ, I just needed a little push in the right direction... The text gives a value of 0.17-0.19 µf, I will have to pull the flywheel again and see what I come up with. Mark

TS 350 that I just went through. It is hard to tell from these photos but the transformation was pretty dramatic. It is back together and runs, but has an unusual miss at higher speeds. Sounds to me like an ignition issue but I've been over the points and wiring, points are set at .015"...

So what did you do today?

It is back together and runs, but has an unusual miss at higher speeds. Sounds to me like an ignition issue but I've been over the points and wiring, points are set at .015" and the wiring all looks good. I did run it with the stop wire disconnected and no change. I replaced the spark plug...

So what did you do today?

This is a TS350 if I can read it correctly, points ignition. Cleaning the old concrete off these is a chore. It will look much better when I am done, I expect it should run O.K. with 150 PSI compression. Piston looks pretty good, a few scratches on the intake side, exhaust if pretty clean...

So what did you do today?

I did notice while taking this one apart that the air vane mechanism is all missing, or did they not equip the cut off saw with the air vane/choke governor? Mark

He wanted me to go through it, clean it up and make it run again. I'm working on it... Mark

    McCulloch Chainsaw ID?

Super 44, AF cover is on backwards 1-4X, possibly a 200 I will defer to Bill PM610 Nothing significant there, the Super 44 @ 80cc and manual oiler only is the most interesting one of the lot. Mark

    What's on your bench?

3 phase motor on my lathe failed me...stuff on several benches. I was in the process of tumbling the fuel tank for my buddies 200 amp starter/charger and running the motor too slow. I did some Google research and have a Leeson motor on order. Grizzly wanted $700 for a replacement motor...

    MCCULLOCH The official McCulloch thread

Many use Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow but that is a bit more orange than the original, very close to to the later Pro Mac saws like the PM800. I have found some John Deere yellow and Industrial Safety yellow that were much closer to the original shade used on the earlier saws.. If I remember to...

    Vintage Chainsaw Museum

I guess it was finally cold enough and there was enough snow on the ground that the gas company decided it was a good time to run the gas line to the new building. No meter and were not tied in yet so the new building continues to operate on electric heat from the Mini Split units. Mark

    What's on your bench?

The 33 LeSabre and Thrifty Mac were apparently put together hurriedly to provide a direct drive saw for the pulp wood cutters in Quebec. Power head is the same 33/35/39 design laid on its side, turns out the bar ended up on the left to run the chain in the proper direction. McCulloch used that...
