I see the topic has strayed a bit from the orig thread- and I am guilty of adding to that. Hope the O.P has got what he needed to know :)

    HELP! Miller welder

we pretty much called 6013 the dummy rod, a totally useless rod in my opinion other than they are cheap and good for beginners to start with. Would never use them in the field, nor any of my home projects either

    HELP! Miller welder

I would say a 100W is more than enough- 60-75W would do. All thats needed is to keep moisture out, otherwise pallets of rods in warehouses would have to be heated and they arent. When I did QC welds @ the nuke, there was always paperwork that went along with checking out rods from the cal lab...

    HELP! Miller welder

My dad use to keep all of his rods in an old fridge also with a light bulb in there on 24/7 , 365, though the 5P's didnt need to be kept out of moisture, he kept them there anyways. @ work everything was kept in rod ovens after opening the can except the 5P's. Most of the rods were the low-hi's...

    HELP! Miller welder

For me- my opinion formed over my career for a very long period of time-- Sending back the excalibers and replacing them with atom arcs would be like sending back a delminico and telling them you want salsisbury steak instead But thats just me--- obviously others have their own opinion formed...

    HELP! Miller welder

Not a bad choice @ all for a home owner thats not using it on a daily or semi daily / weekly basis The main thing you want to look for when buying a "new" machine in my opinion is the duty cycle- and for 99.9999999% of homeowners - they dont need a machine with a high duty cycle. Did you happen...

    HELP! Miller welder

I worked at a nuclear facility and also couple of coal fired boilers and welded more xxs tubes, steam drum headers , economizer & water wall tubes and high pressure lines through out these facilities than I care to remember , for 35 yrs (started in '82 @ the power plants ) . and its not even...

    HELP! Miller welder

There is a big difference between the atom arc rods and the lincoln excaliber-100 out of 100 welders will pick the excaliber rod Try them side by side and you will see. Oh- the atom arc are cheap, thats why companys furnish them and not the excaliber.

    HELP! Miller welder

Prior to me retiring 10 yrs ago, we had a half dozen bobcats on our trucks that we took out in the field when there was no 480v connection and I gotta tell you the only problem I remember is dead batteries, so I have nothing bad to say about them, they were great dependable welders up to 5/32...

    HELP! Miller welder

Thats an old machine, the newer models similar to that one by Miller are called "Bobcat"-Those I used many times and they are excellent welding machines, but I wouldnt count on using the generator part for anything but accessories, certianly not as a home back up unit. Its probably the most...
