    Ultimate "Firewood" Saw

OK, so based on that picture, an extra drive link is added between every cutter. So that would mean cutters are reduced by 33% right? Couple that with the transition from 3/8 to .404 and that would net a 40% total reduction in cutters from 3/8 full comp, which I was running, to .404 full skip...

I guess I don't understand what full skip means. I thought it meant every other cutter was removed. Can you elaborate on this?

A little birdie told me to go with a 28" Tsumura, .404 Full Skip chain, and 8 tooth sprocket. Anyone care to confirm this? My hands go numb after the first few teeth of filing, so half the teeth to file sounds really go to me.

There appears to have been some quick moderation to this thread...clearly there was some history there.

Does anyone have a line on a 25 or a 28 ES Light bar? My dealer can't get one, says his distributor doesn't even know when they will be back in stock. Or should I be looking at aftermarket? I don't even know what a Stihl Light bar would cost compared to aftermarket.

    Ultimate "Firewood" Saw

lol, I did admit I was green at the beginning of this thread. I agree I need more time with the saws, and hopefully now that I am a member of this forum I will continue to learn at a slightly faster rate than the last 8 years lol.

So then what your saying is you would like to just send your 462 to me since you aren't using it anymore? LOL! I have never run a .404, I will have to research this a bit. Thanks for the responses guys, looks like maybe I can get away with not buying a new saw?? Worst case I end up with a...

    Ultimate "Firewood" Saw

So in a crazy turn of events, I managed to snag more than a full log truck load of premium timbers that were headed to a scragg mill, all 20-ish" diameter or less. Rough estimate is a solid 8-9 cords. I normally scavenge all of my firewood, but in doing so, at a property being logged down the...

    Ultimate "Firewood" Saw

Ok my buddy got back to me with pricing on a new MS462-CM. With a 20" bar it's $1123.81, with 25" bar it's $1133.85. these are out the door prices. How does that sound compared to what you guys have seen? Tax is 6.75% where I'm at. I think it's a decent price. I'm thinking I will go with a...

    Ultimate "Firewood" Saw

Now you tell me! lol thanks for the tip, I will check this out. I am supposed to be getting a price from my buddy today on a 462, his family runs the local Stihl dealership, so I get pretty fair pricing on items.

That sounds like something I would tell my wife...then I would buy the 462 and a month later send it off to be built LOL! I have a feeling that once I run my 661 ported...it's going to be intoxicating. That's how I ended up with a turbocharger on my trail rig hahaha! In all seriousness though...

    Ultimate "Firewood" Saw

Well, money is always an issue, isn't it for everyone else too? I hope I'm not the only poor bastard here lol. BUT, as I said before, I am willing to spend the money if the tool justifies it, as I am saving so much by burning wood. Also, I have had my 290 for 8 years now, and it is mint. In...

    Ultimate "Firewood" Saw

LOL. You guys... So far I am leaning towards a new 60cc saw with good AV and get it worked over. The 290 is great, and I think I will keep it, but I want something better in basically every way. Regarding the AV thing, I have bilateral carpal AND cubital tunnel syndrome, as well as a screwed...
