I trashed a Husqvarna 365 cylinder after fitting a new Meteor piston kit, which I automatically fitted new OEM clips to without realising / checking that OE were slightly too big, hence not fully fitting into the circlip groove, circlip came out putting a heavy groove in the cylinder! another...
The carbon doesn't look thick, so shouldn't be an issue, but looks like too much carbon, could be fuel or mixture. Circlips are always a difficult on, the golden rule is to use OEM were possible but as you're using an aftermarket piston you have to be sure that the circlips are the same size...
The last Meteor pistons I fitted, 3 in recent times, I had to remove some material from the skirts to get clearance from the crank touching at BDC, ( can't remember if 116i or 120i, or both) but may save you some time. see pictures attached
Thats odd! Is there any carbon on top of the piston? It appears to have some black carbon marks within the scoring on the piston? Also too much brown deposits around the rings typical of Stihl Ultra oil usage, causing ring to stick, Use Red Armour 2 stroke when you rebuild it, can't think of...
No problem, glad be be if some help. Make sure you remove the plastic limiters on the mixture screws, if they are still on! Reset the mixture, depending on what info you have set max rpm to 13,500, some of the info says 14,500 but it was causing some issues. 13500 is ok and easier when max rpm...
Never really had an issue with dust ingress on that series of saws, I always slip an rubber 'o' ring over the air filter snout anyway on any saw that has just a slip fit. I also had a 5105 that somebody had over tightened the plastic elbow between the air filter and carb and distorted it, just...
I was also surprised but very little corrosion, I think that maybe initially saw was run on proper bar oil but never cleaned, putting a layer of oily crud over everything, then some kind of veg oil was used, the original oil soaked mess protected the saw from the veg oil attack. The oil tank...
If you can believe it I tried with air, but it was like glue and baked on!! brake cleaner and a mixture of diesel and petrol wouldn't shift it, I just left as it required a strip down anyway. Alcohol was the only thing that got it loosened up ( for the saw not me) I hate it when I see saws...
It's was pretty grim, even some mould, that's what you get from using the wrong bar oil. What was surprising was the piston was in great condition, you can just see the bottom of the skirt in the photo, just a couple of scratches on the inlet side as air filter mesh had a small split in the mesh...
Gave a new life to two teal models over the weekend, A 6000i which had piston failure, a not looked after unit, just need to find a top handle for it now ( didn't come with it) and a nut for the stop switch. The 5200i was completely gummed up with veg oil and saw dust and never cleaned, owner...
The earlier 111 with the red top and single mount brake flag were lighter, I was working on both an 111 and a 520 ( same as last 111) and the 111 is lighter even by feel, I noticed as I was working on it and purposely picked both up as I was curios! Was not so bothered as to go and get scales...
