Piston/Cylinder Brands: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

Wow. And when was the 500i released to the US? 2020? If so, that's pretty good considering the abuse I'm sure some of those have taken.

Where would you put them on a reliability scale from 1-10? (And what saw gets a perfect "10"?)

Almost makes me not want the 500i...lol. I hate proprietary bullcrap. But, I think it's worth the risk and money to fix it.

Piston/Cylinder Brands: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

I agree with what y'all are saying, but idk if I want to push my luck and try to ask for a seized 661 or something. He offered to send me this saw at no cost, and I don't want to push anything. Also, if the saw was running well right before it died, shouldn't the sensors and everything not...

Piston/Cylinder Brands: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

While I get a 2 stroke engine and an automobile engine are different, I do have a fair amount of experience fixing cars. How much more complicated can it be? :tiburon:

Gotcha. Thank you. To clarify, he is giving me the saw to have so I can learn how to tear down a chainsaw/repair it. It will be completely mine (if he ships it). He's got close to 100 saws for his company, and this one is just taking up space.

Yeah. They're ok. Not the brightest bunch, but I guess I'll give them a call.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you have any experience with the Proline Pistons/Cylinders? Unfortunately, Meteor doesn't make 500i pistons/cylinders, yet, and idk if I wanna drop the $400+ on OEM parts with a saw that already has a lot of hours. Also, in case I screw something up, idk if I want to...

Piston/Cylinder Brands: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

Good afternoon, folks. I need some help. I have a friend who will be shipping me a 500i that one of his guys ran straight gas through. Apparently, it seized pretty close to TDC. I have never broken a saw down, but I have some idea of what's in there (I've watched some modding vids, etc). My...

    poison ivy wash

I'm not allergic, at least not anymore. Back when I was a kid, I just washed it off with degreasing dish soap. It is an oil, after all. The sooner you do it, the better.

    Chainsaw Mill Upgrade

Probably hardwood, because my 462 handles a 36" bar in pine pretty well, so I find it hard to believe a 395/660 would struggle with a 42" in soft wood.

    Chainsaw Mill Upgrade

So, anyway...back to the original topic... 660 vs 395 for milling: is it generally accepted the 395 is better for milling? Is the stock oiler good enough on both saws for a 42" bar without an aux oiler?
