So what did you buy today

Well… Yesterday, I guess I didn’t really follow in the spirit of Earth Day… Today, I got up and did the same thing.

Clearing trees and brush - exc or dozer?

Then a smaller (160/200 size) excavator with a 36” bucket and a thumb is what you’re looking for. Just make sure the bucket has a good set of teeth. Probably a 3 guy job. One guy in the excavator, a saw guy, and another guy on that five-ton you have in your avatar hauling the brush off...

Clearing trees and brush - exc or dozer?

The reason I ask is because for long and skinny an excavator wins every time. For production, it’s hard to beat an 80,000 lb class machine with a 36-42” bucket and a progressive link hydraulic thumb. Wider buckets make it too hard to dig through roots while you’re stumping and you move a lot...

Clearing trees and brush - exc or dozer?

Late to the party, but if you don’t mind me asking-is it long & skinny, and if skinny, how skinny? Root rakes are great for cleaning up, but they get caught on random things in the ground, which you have to get un hung up from, and it just wastes time. Much less how it feels when you’re...

    Saw Troll

It’s gone the way of the Instagram generation… Gotta post pictures of everything, or nothing ever happened. The Forestry & Logging forum was still pretty good for a while, but after a few arguments with a few members I even gave up on it. I don’t take many pictures of me working in the woods…...

    Mastermind Work Saws

Randy built my first ported chainsaw. Whatever he did he got a Stihl MS 441, which sits at 70.7 cc, to have enough jam to yard a full comp 105 driver sharp round chisel chain through whatever I’ve needed, comfortably. Stock, the 441 is kinda lacking despite having a nice, wide power band. Again...

    SOLD Rebuilt early Stihl 046

PM sent. I’m a sucker for the big 1128 series saws, and this is a great deal.

So what did you buy today

Got this today. I sold mine a while ago, have regretted it since, and as little run time as is on this one it’s too cheap not to buy. It came with something I haven’t seen in a long time… Is there a GB distributor in the Cincinnati area?

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Our Fire Hooks Unlimited rep is pretty adamant they make theirs in-house. They keep their polls really soft. A Boston axe has a tall poll, as can be seen in the photo I posted before. It just gives a firefighter a better chance of hitting the adze end of a Halligan or Kelly tool driving forks...

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Glad to be of help! We carry the eight-pounder. It’s a beast. That FE6 hits better though-especially hitting one-handed and holding the halligan with the other. The tall poll on the FHU has advantages though, and so does the long handle. I think Council Tool and FHU (formerly K-T Tool Company)...

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Mine isn’t too big, at least compared to the irons we carry on our truck. The head actually gaps a door really well. It’s a good hitting axe, that’s for sure.

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

I’m totally with you on that. I like a lot of the WCS products, especially in that they provide a solution to problems a lot of people have, but most of them are over the top for my use… And very, very spendy. I really like the look of their axe handles, they look well made and thought out...

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

Is East Coast Lumberjack a manufacturer of handles? I’ve bought most of mine recently theough Beaver Tooth, but their turnaround time is brutal and my big palms/short fingers don’t like some of their handle profiles. I’m looking at maybe something else. Anothrt reason those are hung flush is...

    SHOW ME YOUR AXES

I’m not its biggest fan either, but it’s what will be on there until I break it. With it being a curved handle, it won’t take me long. I’ll hang it on a 32” straight handle after. I prefer straight handles, period. I think they’re more controllable. Or maybe I just swing too hard and the “whip”...
