    Show off your muffler mods

Do you think it might be the plating that’s making things difficult and not the metal itself? Maybe could try blasting it, glass bead or aluminum oxide, etc.

Did you try tig brazing? I would like to think that would stick fine(?). Or is that what SiBr is?

Husky 2100 - stripped hole, repair issue

Thanks, I was happy to do so. I have to admit that from the original pictures, I didn’t realize that there was an internal structure complicating the drilling/tapping operation. The shape of the tank made it impractical to fixture on the mill, or so I thought anyway. But since there was the...

Welding save of a cracked 064 case

Nice job on the repair! I’ve never welded magnesium. Does it TIG similar to aluminum?

Husky 2100 - stripped hole, repair issue

I agree with dr, about since it’s only the oil tank on the backside of this area, the risk of a leak isn’t bad at all. In fact maybe I would purposely drill through into the oil tank, to allow the insert to be greater in length, with that much more thread engagement. More threads for loctite...

So what did you buy today

    Wow! Great score.

Husky 2100 - stripped hole, repair issue

I would drill that hole and thread it for a larger size bolt. May need a bottoming tap if it isn’t a through- hole. Make out of a grade 2 bolt, your own insert, drilling and taping it for the original fastener, etc. Best done on a lathe, but could be done without if necessary. Red loctite...

Anyone ever use these on their squish bands?

Every once in a while I too find something at harbor freight that actually proves useful. I was also wondering though, if this disk is stiff enough such that it sands off the high spots, and doesn’t conform to the irregular surface, etc?

1st Porting Attempt, an MS200T Clone

The digital pressure gauge and 1/8NPT hose barb fitting arrived yesterday. I first tried Teflon tape at the threaded joint but soapy water showed it was leaking there. Then I tried some of the Loctite 518 I’d used on the cylinder base. That seemed to eliminate that leak. Next I tried a new...

    Lathe questions??

I second the VFD vote. VFDs also offer controlled acceleration/deceleration rates, preventing large inrush currents and the harsh banging of gear lash. They can produce useable torque at really low rpm, handy for tapping. You can wire up a jog button for positioning of the chuck, etc.

So what did you buy today

There are so many digital angle gauges on Amazon, all quite similar. I just ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T6YZ0K6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Hopefully accuracy is decent.

1st Porting Attempt, an MS200T Clone

I agree, the sensor may not be rated for gasoline or oil. If it were to fail at some point it wouldn’t surprise me. I’m just playing around!

So what did you buy today

Ordered this pressure gauge to use as a compression tester with this modified spark plug base and check valve: Update: The gauge arrived and I tried it out, discussed in post #17 in this thread: https://opeforum.com/threads/1st-porting-attempt-an-ms200t-clone.29953/

1st Porting Attempt, an MS200T Clone

I wasn’t aware of that site, will have to check that out, thanks. The datasheet I did find is this one: https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/187/c15_31-1149922.pdf I’m retired for a couple yrs now, but had designed circuits for industrial temperature controls as a career. I have a cousin who...

1st Porting Attempt, an MS200T Clone

Yes, I should try that. Presently that plug base still has the metal compression washer on it. But I could remove it and turn a slight recess in the base to help capture an o-ring.
