    Fuel mix

My buddy owns a small engine shop. He said that 50:1 was more of an EPA thing. If you run 40:1, it's a little better for the engine, but he hasn't noticed a real difference. I went to 40:1 in all of my 2 strokes, some are newer, some are older, like my 1974 LawnBoy. New mix oil is much better...

    Jonsered 450 won’t accelerate smoothly

Good day all. My neighbour asked me to take a look at his J450 for him. New carb kit, ultrasonic cleaned, general clean up, new fuel filter. Got it running but it won’t accelerate if I gun the throttle. It bogs down like there’s an air leak somewhere. Suspecting the intake boot, I got it off...

My 012AV has a weird habit....

Update; fuel was pouring into the carb box whenever the saw was tilted up. Problem solved with some Permatex Motoseal.

Finally. I’ve been looking for a big bore Homelite for a while, and didn’t I find 2! Total cost; $85CAD.

My 012AV has a weird habit....

Nice runner, replaced the fuel line and carb kit. Got it tuned, and started to trim trees. Lots of snort when using it in a "normal" position, but the moment that I lift it to cut a high branch, it won't accelerate. Level; no problems. I'll ultrasonic the carb again (dirt in a passageway?) and...

    What's on your bench?

Brick top update; After a complete tear down, new rings, coil, recoil spring, and a few other minor things, it started on the 2nd pull. Coincidentally, the recoil spring broke on the 2nd pull. Argh. Got it replaced, now it starts on the first pull when cold, 1/2 pull if it's warm. Can't wait...

    What's on your bench?

Nice saw, I have the 020AV. Light, reliable, cuts like a champ.

    What's on your bench?

$45 from a local guy, a 1974 LB with a D-433 engine. Anyone know a good place for parts? It needs a coil for sure, so I may just replace it with an electronic kit. Bones look really good, nice clean carb. Lots of carbon in the muffler/exhaust ports. I'll pull the jug before I start dropping $$$...

Looking for a manual for either of these Homelite saws

I have a Super VI200, so a manual for it would be great. Canadian build, not very common. These saws apparently have a lot in common with mine; VI-123, XL-101, XL-102, XL-103, XL-113, XL-122, XL-123 AJ

Spark Plug With / Without Resistor

The non-R plug gave me just ONE spark while I spun the flywheel with a drill. I removed the coil to take some readings; 0 ohms on the primary and 10M ohms on the secondary. I may have found my problem. Sooooo, anyone out there have a spare coil? Looking for one off of any of these saws; VI-123...

Spark Plug With / Without Resistor

Leon recommended a non-R plug for my Pioneer 11-30. A very slight improvement over the R version, but I still can’t get a continuous bright spark. Grrrr.

    Not another chainsaw!!??

Garage sale today, Homelite XL, he wanted $20 so I offered $10. Heh heh. Missing lower screws (not surprised) and the chain was just dangling; no bigee. It appears to be in pretty good shape. I'm in the middle of rebuilding an XL-2, so this should be fun. Looking for a service manual for the new...

    STIHL BR450C-EF Blower

Hello all, I just joined, nice to see so much information here. I'm mostly a Stihl chainsaw/trimmer/kombi guy, but a buddy dropped off his Stihl BR450 blower for me to take a look at. When you pulled the recoil, there was a weird clicking sound. I did all of the obvious stuff before doing a...
