    Improving my health

I'm gonna ignore the conversation about lung cancer, even if the cig companies knew of it for decades and marketed around it... I lost weight by cutting out fatty foods and sugars. I had to, I had a heart attack and I have diabetes. So my motivation may be a bit stronger than the OP's. Having...

    Part Five: Ignition Timing

Yes, but one or more pulls ain't gonna hurt ya so long as it's not sumfin like a 395 :) And, geziz, the sound of a well advanced chainsaw... Here's a modded 4300 AKA Dolmar 420 with about as much timing as I dared:

Miller Mod and the PS-421 dolmar.

Almost forgot to add vids: She revs noticeably better and has way, way better scavenging when you add the eyebrow ports(here she is in seasoned red oak): And here is Andrew with it in the field cutting sycamore. You can hear how eager they rev once the xfer ports are modified. It now...

    Porting an Echo 355T

Also, tuning a stock 355t is a pain sometimes let alone a ported one. I suspect it may just want more carb. Mine floods easily. It just isn't getting the air it needs sometimes, and it wants to run leaner than I am comfortable with. But I think I am just gonna have to let it win and lean her out...

Or alternatively, just use a cut-off and cut the bottom of the exhaust tab and bend her open a bit:

Hah. Having trouble getting 420's in the UK now? I woulda thought you had horded a fair few 4300's. I'll go out to her and take some photos and send them over.

Well, lemme know if ya could use a Dolmar 420. I am gettin on in age to play about with these toys any more :) It's in great condition, and as of yet unported/unmolested. Cheers

Prolly my favourite saw to port. Huge huge gains. And the clutch lasts forever.

That 361 is sort of a weird thing - it's always for sale in Donegal. A mate rang him and said he sounded legit, but is very odd. Like, he didn't trust him just by how odd he was. In any case - Donegal... Chainsaws sure are getting difficult in every aspect here in Ireland now...

I am really weird in that I like a mildly ported 60 or 70cc saw for big work vs crazy ported saws. But I enjoy a 420 ported out of it's skull. I think the porting races have gotten way out of hand. I think I may be agreeing with you - it's just easier to whip about a ported 40 or 50cc saw all...

Did you not have a ps420? I forget where you were, was it County Wexford? I have a 420 in great condition I just got in and am about to port it. May sell her on, dunno since they are getting harder to find here, huh?

    Part Two: The Intake Port

Basically, you want the fuel in the squish really to be nearer the spark plug and center of the piston. Not only does the squish ignite later on in the process, but it is also a very small amount of fuel and air compared to the main charge. What a small squish does is push all that charge right...

Andrew is on the job. He has a ported cylinder of mine. I have 2 420's, so not a whole lot of incentive to go buy more ;). Yet...

Until someone has one a scale, we have no real idea exactly what the weights are. Until someone has one of the newer versions in front of them in pieces, we won't know exactly what it is. So far there's been a lot of talk, but no show. We're waiting on Andrew for the show.

I can wake up a 420/4300 enough I don't even want to bother with a 50cc saw. I think Andrew said this was sycamore: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/G8j8OvuUgyY
