NIB NOS OEM piston, wrist pin & bearing, ring & eclips for Poulan 3300 just got delivered!
Got a good deal, $30 delivered.
Pretty hard to find NOS!
With the ton of other NOS parts I was able to find, It's gonna be about as close to a new saw as I can get! Lol

MMWS 500i, converting it back to .404 AFTER installing the West Coast Saw Fallers Suspension System for it. I have high hopes for it. It was too floppy before to really run the big chain. Plenty of power but no fun at all when it bounces around. We’ll see tomorrow. image.jpg

I see you have a wooden dowel on yer counter.
I have a friend that wants some made out of hickory to use as Drifts/punches in his diesel repair shop. He's in his mid 70s' so I will make him some AFTER I MAKE ME SOME.
I do have a bit of nice hickory at the moment.
Close, but not quite. That's the handle on my tomahawk, I need to sharpen it a bit but I haven't got around to it yet.

Exactly. There’s racing and PSP saws, then there is actual use.

It’s saves me time using 404 because I don’t have to stop and swap loops in many times. I even prefer semi chisel 404 RM. Unless I hit metal or a rock, I can pretty much cut all day with one loop.

Im guessing no one goes through the trouble of producing 404 light bars because the chain chassis is so heavy on its own that the extra expense isn’t worth it. I haven’t priced the Cannon lites, but the regular cannons are heavy SOB’s.

I like the 28’s in the 404 lights. Once I actually need a 36, it’s all bucking and I don’t care about the weight. A 395 with a Cannon 36 in 404 can be taxing, especially when it’s hot outside.

One can argue that at the weight of a bigger saw, the light bars really serve no purpose. I see that point as well, 8 vs 11 pounds makes a difference. 18 vs 21 isn’t that much of a percentage to care.
What guage do you use? 063 or 050

I think I can answer that for him, he uses .063. I would be surprised if he uses .050 because it’s really not easy to find.
I do have some .050 .404 chain (RS) that I’ll not use if somebody would like to try some.

CLOSE but no CIGAR for me Fortunately I don't smoke.
My Shoulder doesn't like horseshoes anymore so I reckon tommy hawks are in the same category (I do miss throwing darts)

Reason i asked is I was given a roll of stihl 404 .050 RM semi-chis chain but don't know what would go on. I suppose I could get a 404 tip and rim sprocket and use it on a 050 bar.
Yes, or any solid nose bar. I found two Oregon sprocket nose bars that were .050 and .404 and I use one on the Jonsereds XF. I think they’re 24”. I’ll get one down and send pics if you’re interested. They have bar stud adapters with them as well.

I got a 2 pack from Wally woild this summer Oregon DURATIP (Hard Nose) 24" 50 Ga / 3003 mount around $55 for both shipped.
Figgered I would use them on the chain saw mill.

I run .404 .050 on a couple saws, just changing the sprocket nose is how it's done. I run Stihl,Oregon, Windsor, and Sugihara's in .404 /.050.

Good to know. I didn’t know they made 404 on 050. All my 3/8 are 050 exc the ones I bought to swap out to 404. If I went .050 in 404 it would just be a nightmare here.

Your post did make me question why I am doing any of it. After pushing and lifting 100-200# rounds, I’m not sure why IGAF about a pound of bar weight. Guess I am doing it for the sake of being able to, really makes little sense.

No one makes it any more, but I have bought a couple partial rolls from local shops over the last couple of years. At first it was about wanting to run my vintage saws the way they rolled out of the factory, just to see how they cut. Bar selection can be really limited for some old saws and no one around me uses a bar shop tool.
I still like to convert some light bars over regardless , but if I'm cutting big stuff I figure hard work is gonna be involved either way.

Yea , after lifting a 27 pound PH , the light weight bars are meaningless Lol 😆, IMG_2084.jpeg
