I had completed a rebuild of a stock saw about a month ago and it wasn't running right......like an air leak. I finally got around to doing a pressure test on the case, it's perfect. I checked the carburetor mount and it's not close to being flat. I've been filing on it for about 20 minutes now...... (used a Sharpe to show me the low spots)

I know there is a raised area to help the gasket seal, but this part is so far gone I may need to file it completely smooth.

Old tiller blew a rear seal from the bushing being worn out. Just pours gear oil out the back and i dont care for gear oil flavored vegetables. Needs new belts as well. Put it off long enough so better quit slacking and get it ready for spring. Gonna see if there's enough meat to where I can ditch the bushing, machine a bearing pocket and upgrade to a roller or needle bearing.

A buddy picked up a 550xp mkII head a while back and brought it over for me to set him up with a bar/chain combo and MM it for him. I had a almost new Husqvarna 20" bar & chain that came on my 357 and I never use it so I ordered a 5 pack of 3/8-7 rim sprockets since his head had a .325-7 on it. Turns out they were chinesium and only one of them was OK to use. 4 of the 5 were 10 thousands or more out of round and would cause chain tensioning issues. Lesson learned. I'll only buy stock or power match in the future. So much for having some spares... I tossed them.

I wasn't very impressed with the tensioning mechanism on this 550 either. It's touchier than any other saw I've worked on and tends to loosen up easily while tightening the bar nuts, although I do like the captive nuts. Has anyone else experienced that on this model?

I seems to run pretty well but since it's just on the first tank of gas, I've only used it on small stuff so far. I used it to fell a dead 10" red pine and cut it into cookies that I use for burning down coals in the woodstove. That gave it a bunch of 1-3 second bursts with no long steady WOT runs. I don't get to put the first tank of fuel & bar oil in a saw very often.

Yet another rebuild I did about a month ago I couldn't get to run right. After the Jonsered 590, I decided to check the same thing on the Partner. Crankcase pressure test, perfect, carburetor mount, not so much.

This issue just surprised me. I have 7 running and these are the first ones I've had the problem with.

A buddy’s 10mm 044. Diagnosed failing coil. Getting some other goodies while it’s here as well. FF,AF,SP, IL, wire harness and new OEM module. Neat old saw!
