I love a 2149!
Me too! It is a great running saw I did some light grinding on this saw a few years ago. no lathe work...just transfers to Mike's #s the best I could. The saw is hard to stop with.325 chain.
Here she is dusted off with 18" 3/8 Sugi.
Going to try it this week

My 50$ 038 mag is back together, was wondering if it was truly a mag or not being it only had two little shark gill outlets on the cover. But I pulled cylinder to clean and inspected boot ect. Measured out to be a mag so wasn’t a 038 or 38 super with new different cover. Has a ks jug cleaned and blended lower transfers, added a set of bridge ports clean carbon off jug and piston. Added a second port to can of muffler and opened up the baffle along with little timing advance. Squish was very loose so I did a base gasket delete final squish of 23 thousands. Saw runs nice and accelerates very nicely just need to go cut some with it but not in the mood to with wind chill of -35

Make sure you tighten the top cover bolts down before testing on her. You don't want to take your gloves off in that weather to find them.

You might have inspired me get at my 038. Been wanting to cheack squish and delete gasket if able to and clean up the exhaust port from the carbon build up. Be a good cold weather project.

It’s all down and muffler back on, need to order some more 193/194 exhaust deflectors. Been using them for my outlets on opened up mufflers as of late. I personally think they look nice when finished when I use them. I’m sure they’ll be too small for some applications but they will fit nearly anywhere and are only like 3$ each. I’ll make some bigger ones of my own after I make a set of dies to stamp them with my bench top press.

I need to do some looking to see but had thoughts of if it’s possible to put an 048 top on the 038 case. I looked at doing it to an 044 once comparing but looked like it would be a lot of work for not much gain if any so I abandoned the thought. Hardly have time to do my straight forward repairs on saws between work and house stuff.

This 038 has a weird coil on it looks like an external trigger bolted down with the coil on the top coil bolt, it’s all oem stuff not an add on. My 038 farm boss had a one piece coil like the new saws kinda wish I still had that too. Maybe need to build another saw to trade to my uncle for it, he did some machine work for me and wouldn’t take any mines so I forced him to take a saw since his 360 homelite needed a boot.

Picked up two snowblowers for service/repairs. The Toro is a Briggs R Tek 2 stroke and wouldn't start due to rotten fuel and a dirty carb, however the ultrasonic cleaner took care of the carb. Flushed the tank with some fresh fuel.

The Yard Machines 8/26 is in need of a carb rebuild (runs but surges), a service check over, and a new 120 VAC starter. An OEM one is almost $200! There are the Chinese ones on Amazon for $65 that have good reviews. I'll have to talk to the owner. Changed the oil, plug, and ordered a set of slide shoes for it.

Went to Napa and stocked up on oil as well. Their brand of oil is on sale for $2.29 a quart till the end of the month.

Cut off wheel on a dremel works better for making a slot for the end of the 194 deflector. This one is kinda sloppy because I tried to use the sharp corner of a flat ended carbide burr.

Some machinable epoxy smearing into the lip to drill and tap the back cover screw that does not line up. Then a stainless steel tap drill and tapped to the front cover hole. With a hold down screw and some locktite for the front screw hole that’s does not line up. Minor modification to the top cover is pull the screw and take off the thickness of the tab from the plastic so that hat sits flat still
