I have only done one, and don't plan to ever do another!!! Luckily, the guy that has it likes it, and after a couple of years of firewood use, it still runs!

It ran OK, but having pro saws, it did not impress me. But the current owner prefers it to his 041.

I've done several of these but this is the first time I've had a failure..they tend to do better with a muffler mod and some put the 044, 046 carb on them. I usually just remove the limiters on the 029 carb adj. screws and it seems good enough...

Next project is a Jonsered CS2240 which has been to other shops and they couldn't get it to run right. I fired it up and it didn't sound too good, tried to run it with the choke off and it wouldn't run at all. I have a feeling the other guys didn't look up the adjustment on the carb, it requires 2 1/2 turns on the L and 2 turns on the H screw which isn't quite what most of them are set at...I haven't waded the snow to get to the garage today but I'll check that first when I do..

Decided to build the 340 as a 346! Ordered an OEM cylinder kit, base gasket and new chain today from HL Supply.. cylinder kit was a deal of the day for $89.99! Base gasket and chain got me free shipping! Was over at ParagonBuilder's today testing a couple of saws and he had a riser which he gave me too. Hopefully in the next couple weeks the build will start. Started a sticker wall in my shop as well!

Thank you again Jason Stratton (you Prick).

The Unicorn with 13.5 thou off to true up base, which still left a small ear. It’s a head slapper, and not by a little.

Was probably sent to me with a squish of less than 10.

Amazing work JMS.

Is their going to be enough meat left in the transfers to raise them back to were they need be?

Honestly, no clue.

The machine work is so off, I just don’t know what to expect.

It’s gonna go on my own saw. Ran out of time yesterday, plus got pissed off.

The only certainty here is uncertainty. Whatever he professed the numbers to be aren’t likely to be anything close.

I’m gonna try a double gasket next, then if I get some squish I will cut band square.

Will,

There is something about the base or riser screws needing to be swapped out with shorter ones on that conversion IIRC.

Maybe someone here can opine?

Yes, they can bottom out before the cylinder tightens down. Have to shorten them a little if they do.
