Evidently this saw took a pretty good lick when it hit the ground. The guy who brought it to me said he picked it up pretty cheap. it will be interesting to see what else is wrong with it. Never seen this happen on a climbing saw

Hey, I don't like parting, I like building … and if you do it right you can stay afloat (but it will not pay for your labor).

And, no way around it, you can often only make it work with Asian parts … their tank holders make a lot of saws viable that otherwise would not be.
I don't parting out saws, I prefer to build them just as you do.
There is lots of gold mines out there, but we gotta know our saw model inside out to take advances over it.
Some old dealers has old stock, they've lost labels etc, old saw models they've never seen for years, they may be interested to let them parts go cheap.
Another source is ebay, some sellers doesnt have the time to detail everything, ie, they advertise with part numbers without saying what model the part is for. Other sellers are clueless and advertise a top end with casting letters. Some of my best bargains happen to come from ebay.

i got a POS like that on the bench too.. dont mind modding them but fiddly things to fully strip!
