I picked up a very clean 1997 Husky 51 it has a 18” .325 .58 bar and chain with 74 DLs.
My 2000 Husky 55 has a 18” .325 .50 bar and chain with 72 DLs.
Why the difference in DLs. Between .50 and .58?

Maybe it’s due to the bar and the fitment on the saw, or it could be the bar has a bigger sprocket on nose. I think Some stihl saws/bars are like this

But I could be wrong 🤷‍♂️

Certainly true for Stihl, the different bar mounts take different DL’s for the same size bar.

For instance, the MS250 uses a 3005 open ended bar mount and the MS260 uses a standard 3003 closed end mount. They use completely different DL’s. Try explaining that to some guys.

Both saws he refers to are K095 mount, so they “should” be the same. Not sure why the different DL count unless they are different widths.

Husky also makes two 20” bars, one78dl, one 80dl. I’ve always guessed it was something left over after buying Jonsered.

Are the bars the same brand? I know I've ran into different manufacturers having different dl counts than others. Tsumura does that sometimes.

Every 18” .325 k095 bar I’ve seen is 72dl. Possible that the oddball isn’t k095, but still fits

I think (but I could very well be wrong) that a K095 bar with an integral nose has a different dl count than one with a replaceable nose.

Could be that the "off" sized bar is for another of Husqvarna's off shoots, I've seen this in Poulan/Poulan Pto before being 2 dl different than it's Husqvarna counterpart. What with all the different brands they hold the possibility's are many. The identification number stamped on the bars should tell the tale after someone with some bar knowledge can properly tell where they are from and just what their fitment was meant for, as it would surely be a curiosity if in fact Husqvarna did make two different dl bars under their own brand.
