I finally got the CP125 back on my bench, and I figured out why it didn't have any spark. After setting the gap I got it to pop, but now I have a new issue. It always fires at the same time, mid-pull. I checked to make sure the flywheel key was intact (it was) and tried flipping the leads on the chip (the points are gone), but there wasn't any change. The only thing I know is different is the original coil is the upper in the 2nd pic and the one that replaced it is the lower one. Any chance they're timed different?

With the chip, the flywheel controls timing, the 125 flywheels can vary quite a bit! I would check your flywheel key slot for play, sometimes you can get a little more or less timing., I have seen some of the 5° flywheels at 7°, and heard of +9°, you can always retard the timing with a cut key

I check them with a degree wheel, when assembling, all of mine like the 5° flywheel and a chip, my kart 101 has 235 lbs of compression and a 5° flywheel. It starts pretty easy. I notice more hard starting for lean conditions.

Most if not all Macs are timed at 26 degrees advanced .Stihl is 27 degrees BTW . One of my 125's with an offset key would be close to 30 but surprisingly it's not a mule kicker .Good thing because if that big engine came back on you it would put the hurts on you .I had an 084 bite me once hard and I could predict bad weather for about two years afterwards . Then there's Fred AKA Stihl Boy who rolled my souped up 038 mag slowly and it tried to drag him through the recoil .BTW Fred is a pretty good sized guy but it moved him.

I made this video of the cold start Procedure I use, don’t have to pull that hard to get the pop, and one good yank with the choke off and it fires up pretty easy, this is a cart motor with a 5° fly wheel at a chip. This was stone cold start on a 45° day if I remember correctly it was either 31 or 32° advace

A self advancing trigger unit is kind of hard to explain .Basically it senses a certain level of voltage dependant on RPM's and then advances .Weather it's variable or just one advance step I've never found out .However a speed limited coil works just the opposite .Most likley uses a "crow bar " circuit to cut in or out the coil discharge .Those on a dead stick you can tell just by listening to the engine . Then of course are the rattle ball governers used on some application .All are better than a air vane governor IMO .

I was gifted an SP40 & it has a leaky fuel tank.What other models used the same fuel tank?Does anyone know if there's a product out there that's like Red Kote,but for plastic tanks?
The saw is almost mint,has had little use.

Ed - Same fuel/oil tank as the Mini Mac's. If you don't have/can't find one locally let me know and I'll put one in with the saws when I send them back. I'm thinking next week will be a Mini Mac week, I have a least 4 in the shop right now that folks want fixed up.

Last Saturday was a pretty good Mac day, I used my junkyard dog SP125 to drop the big stick and buck it up, and my 7-10 to noodle the rounds into more manageable pieces. The neighbor in the red house was trying to work on his deck, not sure he could hear himself think.

Even when cut into 4 pieces, those chunks were difficult to manipulate into the splitter.

Aren't the 125s fun to run though?I ran mine for the 1st time 1 1/2 yrs.ago & it was an awesome experience!

Mark,I believe I have a fuel/oil tank here for a E.B.2.0that I got from Bob J.about 5 yrs.ago.I never got around to putting it in the saw & someone helped themselves to the saw.

While we were working on the oak tree pictured above, someone dropped off a few boxes of used saws/parts at the shop.

Son Jeff was helping me get the parts cleaned up and from the pieces I put together this PM700.

I used one of my early version 3D printed sawdust screens.

NOS muffler from parts, and a modified PM style clutch cover from one that was busted up pretty badly. I doubt it would keep up with my 7-10 but I must say is doesn't do badly with the 20" bar buried in my oak test log.

Ed where is it leaking I've had good luck plastic welding the tanks. I use one piece of similar plastic to use as rod and just fill weld with plastic welding iron. Kinda like a soldering iron.

Good Evening. I have an 805 that I would like to get running again. Are replacement pistons/rings still out there/available? I think the cylinder will clean up.

Look at the top of your cylinder/head, there may be a letter stamped on it as the 82cc saws came from the factory as an "A", "B", or "C". No stamp indicates a "B".

I have a few NOS piston assemblies (piston, rings, bearings) in each size, I think Max has some as well.

I would not recommend the LRB option unless you reuse your wrist pin. I have not been happy with the LRB pistons but Maintenance Supervisor has a saw he put together with one that turned out well. LRB has ignored the three letter sizes supplied by McCulloch and offers a one size fits all.

For reference, this one is stamped "A"...
