Had a closer look inside the cylinder once I cleaned it and there was some nasty damage to the top and bottom edges of all the ports and transfers.
Some of the marks in the squish are pretty bad.
Then when I started trying to remove the aluminum transfer in the cylinder a section of the plating lifted.

I will be getting a new Piston and cylinder for it.

Yeah probably was but the dints in the ports had bulged the cylinder bore in which had destroyed the piston.

Removing them meant removing the plating and probably altering port timing.

I am far more comfortable using a new one
you going to mod the replacement?

No mate, I just want it to run.
I already have a lot of time in it, and I have other projects waiting their turn.

One thing I found out was that you need a long 5mm screw to jack the oil pump out of the case.
Took me a while to work that one out as I was being cautious not wanting to break anything.

Just the old rubber seal on the oil pump is $38.

Interesting rebuild! Builds that get your hands dirty are always the most rewarding when complete.

Well then this one will be like winning lotto.

Every time I walk within 6 feet of the parts bin I need a shower.

I have to stop on the way home to buy some heavy duty brushes because the muck just doesn't want to come off

I was playing with the crank and when I put some load on the big end bearing it feels a bit rough.
I think I am going to have to replace it.

Does anyone have any experience with the after market cranks?
