Skag Tiger Cub, 48" deck with 3 bag collection system.
My impeller belt keeps failing. Can someone who knows these machines
recommend a quality replacement? Local shop who sold it closed.

My son went to an auto part store and they sold him a Dayco L470
which lasted <30 minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also noted the old belt had 'teeth' on one side, the Dayco did not.

Edit: Solved using oem belt...$40 ugh.

Can you post the model and serial numbers from the serial number tag? Also would need the numbers from the bagger system. I need it to look-up the OEM pn for cross referencing as I need the belt specs.

Thanks for the reply AVB - I managed to find the model# and give it over the phone to
a shop while my son was there. Find that forty dollars for a belt a bit high. I even gave
the tech 'Kawasaki 19hp fuel filter' needed...sent wrong size.

I keep the Skag at my mom's house. If you're a dealer does that sound right? I trust the
guys on this forum over 99% more for info/parts/repairs etc.

Thanks for taking the time. I will get that info when I visit mom.

There were two 19hp Kawasaki motors so it would be reasonable to get the wrong filter without the correct engine numbers. On the impeller belt issue we had a unit a few years back with the same problem. The deck mount that rides on or near the ground at the deck outlet was bent. It wasn't obvious when you looked at the unit. It was obvious when the mount arrived. Worth a look if you continue to eat belts. Aftermarket belts are available. We carry both at the shop and the aftermarket is very good quality. PIX is the aftermarket name.

Thanks FF! I will check for damage and shop a spare Pix belt. As for the fuel filter it has
'Kohler 25' written on package, so no effort on shop's part guy.

When we do our spring order we order enough fuel filters for the year. I too stock the Kohler fuel filters. My guys would likely have done the same thing. When we service a unit they get a new Kohler fuel filter regardless of brand.

More good info FF. I may be checking on mom today and will get all the specs on
the Skag, perhaps this filter may work after all. Sizes look so different.
Thanks.

I got the information: GC STC - A9100105 (Skag Tiger cub - 48" deck)
Kawasaki FH 601 V - 19hp

Frogfarmer can you recco what kind of oil you run in your Skags?

*The oem belt does work really well I should note.

Looking up 482278 belt show it to be a 1/2 x 69" Kevlar belt. Dealer pricing is around $35 but dealers can be below or above depending on their MU.
Here the AM belt sales for around $14 plus tax. Referencing B1A67K belt.

The Dayco L470 is 1/2 x 70 Premium Utility belt (Kevlar corded).

So your problem was very likely the wrong size belt as the Dayco belt should have been a L469.

BTW the blower has it own serial number which needs referencing for individual parts as some are different one serial break to the next.

We try to upsell the Opti4 stuff but I buy standard Mobile 10w40 by the barrel for the engines. Valvoline 20w50 racing oil for the hydros.

It's a standard 51 micron 1/4 inch fuel filter. The smaller size would indicate it won't have the same filtering volume. If you change it regular it won't be a problem. The large diameter filters can go a couple thousand hours but the manufacturers won't recommend it. It should be fine.

Your a wealth of knowledge FF. My son bought all the oils and filters
so he can service the machine himself. Makes me happy he likes to get
his hands dirty and keep our tools maintained.

My sincere thanks!
