I got an OEM piston and rings and the lower ring pin location is not positioned correct for the ring ends to tuck under it. I've ground away on the ring in an attempt to clear the pin while in the cylinder but it's getting pretty thin at the ring end. I'd like to just eliminate the bottom ring, top ring fits great.

Anyone ever run single ring in 036/360?

For reference my 044 frankensaw that I abuse day in day out is currently running one ring, has done since I ported it about 6 months ago. Reason being I snapped the bottom ring with my numb fingers and couldn't be arsed waiting for a new set, so though ah well it's my own saw and my own cylinder let's see what happens. Still runs like a champ to this day

You can run just the top ring, but I am like Jim, thinking something is wrong with the piston.

I can get better light if anyone cares. Scratches were from me originally trying to get it in the cylinder before I realized what was wrong. I have not contacted the seller, might as well. Most of us know him and he's a good guy, I just didn't want to make this his problem.
Mike, all I'm trying to do is use it. If you look really close at the ring ends, they have been ground thinner to fit under the pin. And still a tiny bit more needs to come off, it's too tight in the bore still.

Like I should've done right when I found it, the man, the myth, the legend is going to make it right. Top notch customer service.

Thanks for asking questions guys.

I'd be nervous about the pin too. Good move getting a new piston, 1 ring or 2

I'd be fine with one ring. Pretty sure Brad built most of his Double ring Stihls with only a top ring. Don't think he ever had an issue.

I'd be more concerned with the piston defect itself. There's no way of knowing what else could have been wrong in the manufacturing that doesn't meet the eye. And as the others said, the pin could come loose.

I would look inside to see if it goes through and Remove it if you can.
Looks like you narrowed the piston skirts too on the sides?? Reasoning there, I don't understand??

Them little wings are stock on those pistons. I've never understood either.
